Let It Be: The Beatles Liturgy
6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral
Kempton Hall
147 NW 19th Ave
Portland, OR
Hello everyone:
The Beatles have been in the news a great deal in the past week. First, the excellent new documentary on George Harrison aired on HBO. Then Paul McCartney married Sunday. Sunday was also John Lennon’s birthday (he would have been 71).
Unfortunately, another thing has been in the news a lot lately: hunger in America. The cost of U.S. hunger was $167 billion in 2010, as the number of food-insecure and hungry Americans rose 30% from 2007, according to a Brandeis University study. Even Sesame Street recently highlighted the growing problems with childhood hunger on an episode.
As this morning’s Oregonian reports, the need has never been greater. In Oregon, already one of the hungriest states in the union, food stamp assistance is up nearly 10% from last fall.
This Saturday night, COME TOGETHER to help us feed Portland’s hungry with the music of The Beatles.
Trinity’s Alt.Liturgies program presents a spiritual celebration set to the music of the world's most timeless rock band. Readings, reflections and the Alt.Lit Band will perform songs of grace, transcendence, peace, justice and - above all else - love, love, love. It’s Free - 100% of donations and the free will offering goes to Trinity's hunger ministries, which served hot meals and food bags to more than 20,000 in 2010 (and is on pass to far surpass that this year).
Thanks for your support.
And remember: “In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”
Hope to see you there.
