Is it also true that Paul really did not want to be the bassist. It was only Stuart's departure that made that happen. Yeah after Stu left, you know George wasn't going to do it, and John no way! So that left little Paulie or get his ass kicked! lol

John wasn't disciplined enough to play bass. George - nothing to discuss there. Paul was the one without a dedicated instrument. He was another of the glut of three guitar players. After his balls up at lead guitar years earlier with The Quarry Men he was consigned to rhythm guitar and would also play piano in Hamburg too. As much as he says he didn't want the job, he was the only member who fit the role. Luckily he did as he went on to be one of the most renowned and influential bass players in the history of music.

Sir Paul could do it all!

To be honest, I always find Paul's electric guitar playing (especially lead guitar) slightly uncomfortable to watch and listen to in a live gig. I love his acoustic playing but I really wish he would leave electric stuff to the other guys. Notice he never touched electric guitar at a gig during Wings.

The link I provided was a list of former athletic achievements by the members of the Pembroke Harriers club. Look towards the bottom of the list and guess who appears.

Now I see, quiet interesting pothos! Alan and Kenvin Gilligan also of Liverpool had the record until 1967 when Kenny Beisty of Canada beat them.

Yeah that was a rip towards John's Plastic Ono. lol Did you notice Linda dressed as a guy next to her? lol And Paul as Hank Marvin(Shadows)? Many think that was Buddy, but Buddy never had a red strat. BTW after the video was done Paul gave the red strat to James which was his first guitar.

I recall seeing that video and never getting the references. James would be about three at that time wouldn't it.

I was wondering about the Merseybeat Magazine. Is Bill Harry still about or is it run by other people now.

Merseybeat doesn't exist anymore and hasn't for a long, long time.
Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia.
On 13 September 1964, Epstein approached Harry to create a national music paper, so Harry coined the name Music Echo,[8] and gradually merged Mersey Beat into it.[30] Epstein had promised Harry full editorial control, but then hired a female press officer in London to write a fashion column and a D.J. to write a gossip column, without informing Harry of his intentions,[8] leaving Harry with no other option but to resign.

Bill Harry is a member of this forum. He hasn't posted for a while but if you search for his posts they are very interesting.

Do any of you have a copy of the image of RSATH standing with the Liverpool football squad in 64 with Ernie Caldwell stood at the end and referred to as a goalkeeper.

That was a very good video pothos! Thanks! Sad to see all those groups fold, but that was the times. I even think if the Beatles hadn't come out with Sgt. Peppers when they did they may have been in the unemployment line too. At the end I remember Aunt Mimi's line to John seems to be true for the rest of those guys....'A guitar is alright, but you'll never make a living with it."
