Hello to all - stumbled upon forum via research for Beatle Week events in Liverpool. Having worked with Robert Freeman this past year on his memoir and organization of his photographic archive, I cannot begin to say how much his images have made a difference in what we see in our mind's eye when someone says "The Beatles": 5 album covers title sequences for Hard Day's Night and HELP! covers for 2 of John Lennon's books ... even the montage for the header in this forum are of images made by him! Unfortunately, a stroke in 2008 has severely impaired his mobility, but his mind is still clear and eye as sharp as ever. Should any true fans and collectors of Beatles photography be interested in contacting Mr. Freeman regarding his work, please feel free to post or PM via this forum. I will be glad to pass along any regards or inquiries you may have. www.RobertFreeman.net

OMG you are so lucky to have worked with this amazing guy and to have had access to his archive!
The photo you used at the bottom of your post is my favourite image of John - in fact i have a poster of it on the wall behind me. One of my favourite books is Freeman's 'A Private View'. But i've only seen a black and white version before of John with Julian's Panda before. Is this a tinted version or did he shoot it in both colour and black and white?
I'm so saddened to hear he's been unwell, and i look forward to reading his memoir as the anecdotes in Private View are so touching and I'd love to know more about this gifted artist.

I echo Alix's sentiments - I am very saddened to hear of Robert's illness and my thoughts are with him and his family at this time.
I remember seeing the panda picture in a gallery showing years ago and then much later in Robert Freeman's book - I have never seen it in colour though. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Regards
Alan

thanks folks ... I'll probably see him this week and will pass along your regards.
As for alix's Q - "Lennon With Panda" was shot in color, perhaps reproduced in BW for some specific reason or in context of BW work or expo - I'll ask.
There are some large format, high quality prints of this image now being offered at auction and to collectors - it looks really fabulous large. There are reflections in the glass and you can just barely make out some of the objects on the window sill - reminded me of Decker's analysis of Leon's photo in Blade Runner - kept expecting to see something or someone else ...
