THIS IS A VERY RARE DVD.....
For one week in early 1972, national television talk show host Mike Douglas featured John Lennon and Yoko Ono as co-hosts. In addition to performing on the set and showing music videos of their own, Lennon and Ono were interviewed on part of each broadcast by Douglas. The five shows are now available (minus commercials, which have been edited out) on video as a five-cassette box on Rhino, each installment lasting about 75 minutes. Although they do make for an interesting part of both television and music history, be aware that Lennon and Ono were only interviewed for parts of each broadcast. While they are present almost all of the time, the shows followed the usual variety format of several guests per hour, some chosen by John and Yoko, some not. Thus, you get such outrageous (for the time) interviewees as Jerry Rubin and Black Panther Bobby Seale, as well as left-leaning choices like Ralph Nader, comedian George Carlin, and filmmaker Barbara Loden, bouncing incongruously off more conventional figures like U.S. Surgeon General Jesse Steinfeld and comedian Louis Nye. The musical performances are erratic, if spontaneous; Lennon's songs with Elephant's Memory (which in any case are not among his best tunes) often sound awkward. Highlights include (on day three) duets between Chuck Berry and Lennon on "Memphis" and "Johnny B. Goode"; although Yoko insensitively puts in some of her avant-garde backing vocals at one point, Berry is gracious enough not to let on if he's disturbed. Douglas' interviews with John and Yoko alone, usually lasting for a few minutes near the beginning of each show, are often interesting, but peel off before really probing in great depth. It would have been great if they could have devoted just one show to only John and Yoko, or if the question-and-answer session between them and the audience (Lennon's responses about "How Do You Sleep" and his relationship to Paul McCartney are especially interesting) had been allowed to go on much longer. This was television, though, which meant frequent commercial breaks and a rapid turnover. What might have shocked Middle America in 1972 seems ordinary now: Bobby Seale is reasonable and unthreatening when explaining the Black Panthers' goals to improve inner-city African-American life, and Jerry Rubin is feisty but by no means totally off the mark in his critiques of U.S. defense and domestic policy. Lennon comes off throughout as a likable, benign figure, in contrast to the Rolling Stone interviews he had given shortly before; Ono is more enigmatic, but well-spoken. The box comes with an interesting 48-page book with behind-the-scenes accounts of the shows' production, as well as an interview with Douglas about the broadcasts and a little-read interview (not from the show) of John, Yoko, and Jerry Rubin

Why do you have to post twice? Your 'vote for John Lennon's face to be minted on a new British coin' was bad enough only once. So this DVD is by far the best John Lennon DVD out is it? Well, from your lengthy cut 'n' paste advertising job (posted twice) giving details about it, it sounds fairly mediocre - and that's being kind. So it's better than 'Imagine' and 'The Very Best Of John Lennon' DVDs is it? I would suggest that there perhaps might be some commission coming your way for sales of this DVD. And I would also suggest that you haven't even seen it. And for you to tell us that if we buy from Amazon, we should make sure that we buy from a particular seller (yourself, maybe?) is spamming of the highest order. Go away.

BEFORE I bought a dvd.... YES I do own one as I'm a John Lennon fan, and seeing John playing with one of his idols,.....Chuck Berry was along worth the price! I would have appreciated someone telling me that there was one for sale when I was looking....... As your posts clearly states you do not even have a copy yourself, Yes Imagine and the very best of John Lennon DVD are great DVD's.... but they are not hard to get hold of are they? I'm surprised there is footage of John....this rare that WOULD NOT be of interest a Beatles fan.... I advised to buy off the one seller cause it was $50 cheaper!! What do you have against John's face being used for a coin? It was a direct request from Yoko and I told her I'd spread the word... Are you even a Beatles/Lennon Fan??

I apologise if you think backing John for a honour like having his face on a coin is spamming, I must have joined a Rolling stones forum by mistake! I spoke with Yoko and told her I'd spread the word...where better than a supposed Beatle forum??

It's just not a good idea to double post. It is annoying.
Where better than a supposed Beatle forum? Yoko should have spread the word herself if it was that important. Besides, it was in the news already before you even joined in here.

What do you have against John's face being used for a coin? It was a direct request from Yoko and I told her I'd spread the word... Are you even a Beatles/Lennon Fan?? Let's take the DVD issue first : The fact that the DVD you are touting is RARE doesn't mean that it's "by far the best John Lennon DVD out". No, I haven't seen it so, until or unless I do, I'll reserve judgement. It's just that the lengthy advertising blurb doesn't fill me with an overwhelming desire to fork out $149 and maybe new batteries for my remote control after lengthy spells of fast forwarding. For goodness sake, if any true Beatle fan wanted such a DVD - and there's undoubtedly some 'interesting' stuff on there - then they would know of it's availability and I would hazard a guess that they would make their own way around the internet to compare prices. They don't want anyone pleading with them to buy from a specific seller. By the way, you can already buy 'used and in excellent condition' copies for $49 on Amazon. Maybe cheaper if you trawl around the internet. Don't attempt to influence people into buying the DVD from someone of your choice because, really, you come across like a desparate door to door salesman. The Royal Mint 'face on a new coin voting scenario' is a totally different ball game. Personally, I think John's face on a newly minted coin would be tacky and tawdry. That's my own personal opinion by the way. There will be lots of devoted Beatles and Lennon fans who would absolutely love to see John's face on a coin - and I have nothing against that. But I would stick my neck out here and say that there would be someone absolutely appalled and angered by such a coin minting. His name is John Winston Ono Lennon. Look at the 24 British heroes already chosen for this coin collection : Sir Winston Churchill Queen Elizabeth I Bobby Moore Queen Victoria Charles Darwin Sir Isaac Newton Isambard Kingdom Brunel William Shakespeare Robert Falcon Scott Florence Nightingale Charles Dickens Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Captain James Cook Sir Alexander Fleming Diana, Princess of Wales Sir Edward Elgar 1st Viscount Montgomery King Henry VIII Sir Christopher Wren Sir Francis Drake And look at the list of Britons that are up for best vote to join those illustrious people : Jane Austen Douglas Bader Walter Raleigh Emmeline Pankhurst John Logie Baird John Lennon Maybe Yoko, in her direct request, and you in telling her you'd spread the word and get as many people to vote for John as you can, are both parochial and prejudiced. I can't blame you both for that but please look again at the list of people above. As much as I admire and respect John Lennon, there are far more 'deserving' people on that list who should have their face on a brand new minted British coin. I'm not going to expound the merits of each individual. I don't think I need to. And, for the record, yes, I am a Beatles/Lennon fan. More than you'll ever know.
