To mark the 40th Anniversary of Queen playing The Cavern, there will be a weekend of events at The Cavern Club, Liverpool on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st 2010.
Halloween night 1970 - Queen became the best band to ever play The Cavern Club*
I'm currently liaising with The Queen Fan Club and Cavern City Tours to mark this very special occasion and make the weekend a success. Details are little sketchy at the moment, but early developments are shaping up well and the guest list already looks good with Irish tribute band Flash Harry booked for the Saturday night. The Sunday may shape up to be a convention style Q&A with bassist (at the time) Barry Mitchell and [hopefully] Ibex (early Merseyside based band that Freddie Mercury was in) as well as Ken Testi, credited as the bands first manager and Co-owner of ground-breaking club Eric's - which was around 1979-1983, opposite The Cavern.
I'm sure there will be a lot more to follow, such as DVDs being shown and it will have a 'convention weekend feel'. A similar event was arranged in The Cavern in October 2008 before and after the Queen+ Paul Rodgers at Liverpool Arena, which was a success.
The weekend will no doubt also highlight the many links that Queen have with Liverpool, such as Freddie living in the Penny Lane area; the first time Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor performed live on stage was in Liverpool in 1969; the bands name being inspired by the architecture of 'Queen Buildings' on Dale Street, around the corner from The Cavern and these days Brian May is Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.
I'll post more information here when I have it - and you are all very welcome to attend
* that will annoy Al!
