Hi guys. I'm not a particular Beatles fan, although appreciate their music, however would like to run an idea past you to see if it's worth pursuing.
I live on Penny Lane in Liverpool, the same one the Beatles song is about.
Do you think Beatles fans in other parts of the world would pay for mementos from Penny Lane itself? They would include a photo of me holding whatever it was next to the Penny Lane street sign, and in various bits of Penny Lane, to prove it's authenticity. Obviously I could not steal any street signs, but was thinking about maybe a brick, or whatever they could think of that would be practical.
Is there any merit in this idea, or am I having a stupid moment?
Thanks.
Ed

No offence Ed, but I would not pay for a photo of you mate! Still, I admire your scouse ingenuity! I don't think it's a goer. I think the whole point of somewhere like Penny Lane is that the pleasure lies in the experience, ie the pleasure IS the experience... in other words you have to go there. Hope you stick around beatleforum.com, non Beatle fan or not, it's a great place to visit / express views and you are very welcome

I don't think he's selling pics of himself at Penny Lane - I think he meant the photo as evidence of authenticity, to proove that the items he's selling are genuinely from there. I've seen genuine Glastonbury mud sold on eBay, so maybe it's not such a daft idea afterall - especially if it pays for a few beers!

"Brick from a wall along Penny Lane, as chucked at the number 74 bus on the 19th January 2010, the brick missed the bus, nobody injured, bargain at £250 ONO." "Genuine Strawberry from the Aldi on Menlove Avenue. Pic attached of me holding Strawberry to prove it's been to Strawberry Fields, £85 ONO" Yeah... right

Cheers for the responses, unless there is suddenly an unlikely surge in interest, I get the impression this is probably not worth investing any time into. Not to worry, I've already had another harebrained idea that may have potential, involving those religious images that appear in fruit and everyday objects you occasionally hear about.

Eddie, if you can make a few quid out of selling some old tat that just happens to be lying around Penny Lane, then very good luck to you, personally I say, more fool the folk that buy it - genuinely from Penny Lane or not, but that is thier problem, not yours... I mean, no matter how much of music fan you are would you buy some mud from Glastonbury? (See above post from The End). Unless ofcourse, you just wanted some mud, in which case just wait until it rains (not long to wait in the UK) and go and dig your garden / flower bed in a local park. Nowt queer as folk as they say. Some people will buy any old rubbish (look at X Factor). How would you market this, ebay or similar I guess? There may be a market in finding an old house brick down Penny Lane and hand-chisling a bust / model of The Beatles and put an inscription on it, but that would involve a bit of creativity / work. I don't think it's one for Dragon's Den just yet, but please, by all means log back in here in the future and inform us of how you get on. Personally, what I would like to see in the Penny Lane area are three main things: 1. Sgt. Peppers Restaurant to re-open. (the shelter in the middle of roundabout) This was planned a few years back with an extenstion, I'm not sure if it ever happened, I don't get down that way much. 2. Tidy the place up a bit. There is at least one area where a small garden could be created. Call it "The Beatles Peace Garden" it would be ideal for grabbing a spot of lunch / somewhere to get away from it all for a bit. 3. Better lighting and signage. Tell people it's Penny Lane! Part of the attraction is that it's just and ordinary street, but then so is Mathew Street, but that has signage, statues and some decent features. If you want to help me invest in the above, then that would be great
