Ryan Giggs?!
Nah not for me.
And Jessica Ennis' hair looked a mess -- but glad to see her get 3rd.
A British Formula 1 World Champion took 2nd for the second year running - Jenson Button.

Giggs was a worthy winner A true gent and a legend 11 prems 2 european cups 4 F.A cups 3 league cups etc etc etc That is my point entirely, no doubting those achievements, but those honours lend themselves to a glorious career to date, he did not win all the above in 2009. Now if it was "Ryan Giggs Sports Personality of the last 20 Years" then, he would be a contender but the award is all about THIS YEAR, what are his stats January-December 2009? Ok, he won the PFA Player of the year, but, that again I suspect is based more on his career to date, not what he has done over the last twelve months. Be in no doubt, I regard Ryan Giggs as a great player and a great role model for the sport, as Shearer said, pity he is not English! I think I'm right in saying that in the 10 finalists, the only double world champion amongst them was Beth Tweddle, who I think got 3rd last year - now surely her achievements are worthy of further exposure?

I think Giggs did actually play for England under 21s, didn't he, but chose to play for Wales at senior level.
