I saw the first of a two part BBC programme "The Noughties... was that it?" and it got me thinking that I've never known such a damp, dull end to a decade.
We all got excited as the 70's became the 80's and the 90's into "The Noughties" but it seems that since 2000, it's like every year between 2000 and 2019 has become one decade, rather than two.
What events have shaped that last 10 years?

think part the problem was it was over hyped as a decade before it arrived - Y2K bug, end is nigh, etc etc, previous decades thought by this decade we'd be living on the moon/mars, 2001 etc.
plus since some point in the 90s we've been in the post-postmodern age where all creative arts are just recycling themselves and previously they've been the areas that have signposted a decade, its directions and achievements.
i think it was the book '1066 and all that' that says about how history stopped at the end of the great war and was kick started again when Hitler invaded poland. Perhaps what the Y2K bug really did was stop history again?

It's disappointing to me that we're not traveling about in hovercrafts and teleporting to distant lands by now. I was so sure it would have happened by now! Seriously, though. It seems like back a long time ago people thought that we'd be so much better off than we truly are at the moment. It feels like the world is getting less and less like what we expected it to be in the "New Millenium." It's an interesting thing to think about, especially in terms of music. Nothing truly good has happened on the music scene for a very long time and that, quite frankly, is a little saddening.

He put Sir Paul through to the next round. What more do you want? him to stop doing these kinda shows?? I wish. But then what does "the light entertaiment channel" (ITV1) show on a Saturdee night? Personally, I'd rather watch paint dry or the testcard.
