and Mr Kite, very good list of your favorite movies for your french movies, i don't see Martyrs. A prophet and Tell no one was good but, for me, the french cinema must progress. It's not enough for making great movies. This cinema is stagnate. And a lot of french guys and professional thinks that. I'm not alone.

What is it that's stagnating about French cinema?
I also like those avant garde films like Un Chien Andalou. Still surreal today. I have a pretty good collection of old silents and early talking films but aside from the German films most of them are American. Later on I like stuff like The Seventh Seal and other Scandinavian stuff. Not too much caught up on modern 'foreign' cinema.
Oh yeah, I liked the 1929? film of The Passion Of Joan of Arc.

Blimey desh you are a bit of a dark horse Looking for a bit of HP sauce. I think that's how the lyric goes. I like a lot of world cinema films, I'm just not very up to date. Some great films amongst your favs. Fargo's one of my favourites too. Did you see the TV series? Cheers desh . I love Fargo and all Cohen`s films with an exception of one or two . I did watch the series and after about 3 episodes it was quite brilliant . Billie Bob Thornton was fantastic and he stole the show for me .

What is it that's stagnating about French cinema? I mean we have always the same comedy or drama with the same actors or directors about the same subjects. I mean there is no innovation. And when you have a good script for a scifi movies for exemple, the producers don't want to produce the movie. Even if the movie is produced and comes out in theatre, it doesn't have succes for lack of publicity. anyway...

[/p] Have you seen much Japanese cinema?
[/quote] I have to admit nope. Not too much. I guess the most I've really been immersed in Oriental films is those extreme gore films like Tokyo Police Story etc..... Cultural top drawer entertainment!

Halloween is once again almost upon us . I like this time of year as on Tinternet everyone starts talkin about Horror Films . Anyone have any Favs they would like to discuss . It`s very likely I`ve seen it . If I hav`nt ! Tell me why I should . I have started to warm up on the Horror`s this week . The Collection The sequel to the very good The Collector . Well . It`s just a bit random ! One minute your at the Disco and young people enjoying themselves The next they are almost whipped out ! Just a Slasher with not plot , no continuity what so ever and no chance of another sequel . The Raven (1962) A good old fashioned Horror film that would be put on the telly in the afternoon these days . But you get the great Vincent Price , Boris Karloff , Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson ! Have I mentioned I`ve met Pinhead .

A few more films to report on for ya ! The Signal Very good Sci Fi thriller ! A Indie film feel to it and we also get Lawrence Fishtank playing characters he always plays lately . Cool mean and moody . The Rover Wow ! I loved this film ! Bit of a The Road (remember that bleak belter ?) feel to this one . three nasty dudes rob a mans car , and that was the wrong guy ! Guy Pearce for me gives his best acting performance yet !

I extracted the following from a list of all time great movies: Citizen Kane Gone with the Wind Titanic Doctor Zhivago Annie Hall Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Do the right thing It's a Wonderful life Rebel without a Cause ----- Can anyone guess what thiese movies have in common?
............................................................... I'll put you out of your misery. Trick question really. These are all highly regarded films, yet I haven't seen any of them. I'm a real movie fan, yet I must admit that I've never seen these highly significant films. What's more, I don't want to see them. There is another list, films I wished I'd never seen. When I was in my teens I used to read the film reviews in the "Observer" newspaper every Sunday. Penelope Gilliat was regarded as one of the top critics in the field. On her recommendation I went to see Night Games, a dire Swedish dirge, and Zabriskie Point, which seemed to mave been made by several different people who never met and communicated. I eventually realised that dear Penny and I weren't on the same wavelength. Another film which I wished I'd missed was Le Samurai starring Alain Delon. I went to see it because of the title, and some advance notices which made it sound a decent thriller. Basically it was a tale of a French cop who roamed around doing nothing much. We missed the big clue which should have told us all we needed to know, the word "French" We lasted about 20 minutes before leaving the cinema. Any films you regret seeing?

Hello brewmaster and welcome to the club .
Your list of films that are highly regarded , well most of them are not that good . I know I`ve seen most of them ( Rebel Without A Cause maybe one that I hav`nt seen )
It`s A Wonderful Life is a must see for anyone who loves a good old X massy feel good movie . If you don`t get your hankie out at some point this film you mus`nt have a feckin heart ! mate .
Annie Hall . I saw this at the Cinema ! Maybe Allen`s best "easy watching " Movie , just a love story which has Allen`s four essential Comedy ingredients Sex , Religion , Food , Death . Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon . Again I saw at the Cinema , and I loved every minute of it . I have been a lover of Martial arts from the day of the great Bruce Lee , I guess it`s not a movie for everyone . Which is a shame .
The rest of the list , well I would`nt bother . Do The Right Thing was one hell of a major let down . Spike Lee was the up and coming great director at the time , but this film was pointless .
Films I have regretted seeing . Blimey a fair few . One of the Critically acclaimed films that got me to go and see was ...
Lost In Translation . A utter and complete load of crap . Spoilers ahead (if that is at all possible !) American "Actor" played by Bill Murray goes to Japan (I think, it was as I`v e never seen it since or ever want too ) To make a Whiskey advert and meets an American girl and they go out on the town and have a a few drinks and a few pointless unwitty conversations about nothing ... Do I need to go on !
Also I have seen a few nightmares . 21 Jump St Bad Neighbours In fact ANY film that has Seth Rogen since Pineapple Express. This man has really put me watching any comedy ever again as he seems to be in every single God damn film that has "Comedy " in it . If anyone seems to think I want to watch a film that is just filled with an hour and a half of Blow job jokes are sadly mistaken .

Among the films I detest are those which treat the viewer as an idiot. We all know that we are watching a story, and willingly suspend our disbelief, as long as the material is rooted in some sort of reality. A couple of examples of stupid plot lines. DIE HARD 2 Here the major part of the story concerns a group of terrorists taking control of a major US airport [supposedly Dulles]. This is, obviously, a massive undertaking. Why are they doing this? Well, a captive criminal is being transported by C-130 aircraft, and he has plotted to takeover the aircraft, so his henchmen have seized Dulles for him to land there. This begs the big question, why? A C-130 has the capability to land on short/unprepared runways, so they could have seized a small, local airstrip, or, even landed on a flat field somewhere. Similar aviation nonsense ensues in AIRFORCE ONE. Here the terrorists plot to takeover the Presidential 747 in-flight. Why? Well, the whole idea is to leverage the release of a top gangster from a Russian prison. If you were a criminal mastermind contemplating springing a confederate, would you: A] assault the most highly protected aircraft in the world; Or, B] bribe the Russian prison officials, which would probably take 200 cigarettes and a Mars Bar. A final flight based “thriller” plot came in CLIFFHANGER, which involved taking over an aircraft carrying loads of cash, then an air-to-air transfer of the loot to another aircraft via a zip line. Again, why not just land the bullion flight at a remote airstrip?
