I think that anything that promotes The Beatles to a younger generation must be seen as a good thing - it's not as if they're re-making A Hard Day's Night!

Remember 10yrs ago we got Y-Sub remastered DVDs because a guy very high up at Warner wanted to show his kids this film he loved as a kid and found it hadn't been available since the mid/late 80s. That's how special the existing piece is. Would the remake have this impact?
Let's face it, Let It Be Naked didn't exactly go down well, so will this re-imagining of the Y-Sub fare any better? Coz basically they're doing to Y-Sub what they did to LIB.
But surely what made yellow sub the animation master piece it is - and the reason that at one time it was studied on animation courses was how they achieved what they did at the time with the technology and budget available.
Which can be seen as an argument for and against remaking. On one hand with Disney holding the purse the only limit is imagination as budget and technology are virtually limitless in the world of Mickey and Minnie. So a full masterpiece of limitless depth is achievable. On the other would the Mona Lisa be better if rather than Da Vinci slaving over the tiny canvas with a paintbrush for a few months he just grabbed a 20mp Cannon DSLR and shot a quick snap shot and then printed it out billboard size?
Does anyone think that Disney have been sulking for the last 40+ years that there's one classic vintage animation they didn't get to play on so now they wanna take it over? If they want to up date with all the modern bells and whistles a much loved animation masterpiece why don't they do Snow White and Seven Dwarves, Bambi or Dumbo?
Is there cultural relevance to make a reinterpretation relevant? Often the likes of the RSC and other theatre and film companies look to put modern interpretations on old pieces or find parallels between contemporary issues and historic issues. I don't think we live in an age which believes that expanding of conciousness is a good thing or that music can change the world. Although the idea at the end of living in peace with the enemy who attacked is quite a good moral. But I think the Blue Meanies may struggle to find a refuge in Argentina from the their Music and Beatle hating ways! LOL
