Does anyone listen to the DAB station Planet Rock? It's a great station if you like rock music but it seems to be a station policy not to play Beatles songs unless is covered by a 'real' rock band e.g. aerosmith with Come Together, Motley Crue with Helter Skelter etc I have complained about this but just get fobbed off. The funny thing is they interview rock stars from Lemmy to Joe Walsh, all of which site The Beatles as a major influence and only when the interview requests it a Beatles song is played.
Anyway the point of this rambling is that, bearing all the above in mind, Planet Rock held a poll for the Top Fifty Greatest Solo Rock Albums ever. Amazingly John Lennon came in at number 14 with Imagine and George Harrison came in at number 18 with All Things Must Pass. Which begs the question why they don't play actual Beatles tracks? Incidently Dave Gilmour took the top slot with On An Island.

Yeah, it's strange that The Beatles don't seem to ever get a mention as a "rock" band! As you say, many "hard" rock musicians cite them as a major influence, including Ozzy Osbourne - a HUGE Beatle fan who states that his favourite song of all time is She Loves You!
