Modern bands and solo artists? Just sayin'. I love their stuff. They're actually playing here this month at the Roxy with the original line up. Of course it's freaking impossible to get tickets to because it's a small club. Jeez that would be cool. Anywhere you stand you have a great view of the stage. I never have the luck to get to go to these kinds of things!!! Did they play in the UK at all recently? I hadn't even heard they were doing anything until this morning on some indie rock station. I love John Lydon's writing. Didn't he write the early stuff with the guy they kicked out (for liking bands like the Beatles!) or was it just him? I guess he's back though if it's the original line up.

I got tickets to see them in November! Yeah, it was Glen Matlock who was "kicked out" - which is something he has always denied. He says that he left because he was "sick of all the bullshit" and Malcolm MacLaren of course used his departure to create more publicity by saying he was kicked out for liking The Beatles! Whatever happened, Glenn now obviously enjoys the bullshit again... and the money comes in handy too I guess!

DAMN your luck Alan!!! Where are they playing? You'll probably come back with some great story about Johnny Rotten spitting on you or something. Or was it Sid who used to do that?

Hee hee! They're playing at Brixton Academy, which is a REALLY good venue! But to save any arguments about who's going to be spitting at me, I'll spit at them instead!

I always recognized the importance of the band and its influence, but their music never was my thing.

I remember when I first heard The Pistols - it was on the radio for about ten seconds when the announcer pulled it off and said "sorry, I can't listen to that." And I agreed - I was a long haired dope smoking hippy and felt very threatened by it all. Now it sounds good - great pop tunes and you've got to love Lydons sneer. Boo to him doing reunion tours after all he said and horray for Sid killing himself. All those punks said they would die at 21 - Sid actually did it. Respect

I've never been a huge fan of the Pistols. I always thought they were more an influencial than a really good band. But recently I've been listening to their stuff quite a lot and I'm really starting to appreciate it. Anarchy In The UK and God Save The Queen are incredibly powerful songs.

Now I know why the Pistols are playing here. It's been Steve Jone's I've been listening to on that indie station. I thought the voice sounded familiar!! Crap. It's only a one off and you can only get tickets by winning them. No fair they're not playing anywhere else!!!!! Sex Pistols have announced a one-off show in America next month. The band’s show at Los Angeles’ Roxy venue on October 25th will be a warm-up for the their forthcoming residency in London (November 8th/9th/10th/12th) and special one-off show in Manchester (November 17th). The show is being sponsored by LA radio station Indie 103.1, where Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones is a presenter. Something tells me that if Alan lived in SoCal he'd be going to this. He's got special concert going powers or something. It's a cool station though. You can listen to it online: www.indie103.fm/listenlive.phpThey're doing three hours of punk tonight. Hey, maybe one of you can win tickets and then GIVE THEM TO ME! Ha ha.

Nah, no special concert-going powers, sadly! Took me three attempts to get Sex Pistols tickets and I only got them because they added more dates! I got VERY lucky with the Macca tickets - the website accidentally put them on sale early and somebody tipped me off!

I saw this band on Monday - Johnny Rotten was an absolutely brilliant front-man and the band were SO tight! The crowd played their part and I managed to come home gob-free! I have a few pics and a recording of Anarchy In The UK which I'll try to post up later.

Here's a question: How important are the Sex Pistols to the evolution of punk? I'm having a debate about this on another forum and a lot of people seem to think they were NOT that important. That they ripped off NYC artists right down to the saftey pins. I'm not in agreement, but I'm not a punk expert so I can't really argue these points. Also, the opinion that the Dead Kennedys were a superior political punk band than the Clash is also being bandied about. Again, it's killing me that I don't have the knowledge to respond. Personally I think the Clash are the greatest punk band ever, but again, not hugely knowledgable in punk!Any insight???

I never thought Punk would spawn snobbery, but there it is! The Sex Pistols obviously had their musical influences, some of which were from New York, but the fashion was pretty much down to Malcolm MacLaren and Vivienne Westwood and their "Sex" shop. The Sex Pistols brought everything together in one package - they may not have been the the best band or the most original but THEY were the force that changed music... and with one album! I can't think of another band who managed that with one release! To deny their influence or to belittle their importance is ridiculous in my opinion! Plus they kick arse live!

I first heard of the Sex Pistols way back in 76 & they define punk rock. Johnny Rotten was a great frontman in his own right with lots of attitude. God Save The Queen is a ballsy, blistering masterpiece.

Personal faves are "Holidays In The Sun" and their cover of Iggy Pop's "No Fun" on the flip of "Pretty Vacant." "Anarchy In The UK" sounds pretty cheesy to me these days, and on the whole I think Pil's "Metal Box" is a better record than "Bollocks." It didn't have anything like the influence "Bollocks" had, though.

I LOVE Sex Pistols. I think their influence on the later punk music is necessary, if they hadn't formed in the 70's then there wouldn't be punk today. I love the lyrics in the songs as well, they had the guts to stand against the politics and the didn't care what anybody else thought of them.
