Hi everyone, Excellent forum, I've spent a wee while lurking just now, lots of the kind of information I love to delve into.
I hope it's ok busting in here as a single-issue candidate, but I'm all out of ideas...perhaps the Beatle Forum hivemind can do better...
So. This thing below appears twice, briefly, in episode 3 of Get Back. Both times it appears, it's the same shot. I have been plaguing my entire contacts list about what the heck it is, entirely fruitlessly. I've reverse image searched, and spent way too long on google. Nowt. It's a fascinating image of something I'd love to know more about...and hear, if possible.
Would anyone here know what it is, and / or what the story is behind it? Thanks for reading, any information about it would be crazymonsteranimal helpful

Think this'll do it....apologies!
Apparently not. Oh god. I'll try again tomorrow...for anyone who is on ep3, it;s like a copper coloured deep metal bowl which has a 12 string set of machine heads in two banks, seemingly going through the bowl, as far as a kind of lyre-like bridge on the other side of the bowl....
Edit to the edit: Link works now

Welcome to the Forum puzzled. Sorry I never seen one of those before. Who was playing it?

Hi Rocky! Thanks for the reply, and the welcome. Sorry for the late response, been up to my neck the last few days! I'm disappointed but not surprised to hear you've never seen one before. It's crazy, I think at this stage most of the folks I know have drawn a blank. I've even had two friends ask about it on Twitter, to no avail apart from a couple of lame puns. I suppose the next thing is to ask Peter Jackson or Paul McCartney next time I see them down the pub.........
As for who's playing it, that's unclear. To be honest, that screengrab is virtually all there is...you don't really get to see any more. It looks to me like it's being tuned, or set up, so it might never have been played by one of the band.
One theory is that it's a joke by Peter Jackson to ensnare dopes like me. Well. It worked, Peter, you fiend , nice one! Another idea was that it might be a modification or add-on for another instrument or amplifier or microphone...my gang are out of our depth here, but it MAY be right.
Other ideas are based on finding instruments which are similar which would make it easier to classify and then track down. Some good stuff came up but nothing has come of it...especially since so little specific information can be gleaned from that shot. It has a lyre-like attachment (bridge?) on the left. It seems to have 12 machine heads on the right. It seems to have a metal (?) resonating bowl...that's all we've got. Do the strings pass through the bowl? Is it played with the hands inside the bowl? Does one twang the lyre? Aaargh!
To be honest I've enjoyed the puzzle but at this point it looks like I'm not going to solve it any time soon. Maybe this thread will turn something up though...this was my last roll of the dice!

Actually George use to invite his Indian friends to the sessions. There's a pic of one of them sitting on an amp. Maybe he brought it the sessions and was explaining it to George how it worked. There are also some that believe that it was one of these people that stole Paul's original Hofner bass.

Its going to tricky to solve as it seems and I'm sure it's not on a recording. But as soon as I can I'll get out the Beatle books out .

Out of those 60+ hours of video footage of the 'Get Back' sessions I would really like to see the part where Paul is playing his missing bass and what he did with it after he was through playing it.
