Who was playing piano on that? IMO,Most demos and alternate takes don't stand up well to the finished product, but since this is such a good basic song, it's an exception.

I took a fast look in 'The Beatles Recording Sessions' book and there seems to be 39 takes of the song 'Something' starting on July 11th and George was still remixing it on August 15th, 1969, the names of the musicians used are no longer on file, but the list of instruments is. Seems George Martin hired an orch. to do backing for some of the songs. Amazing when you think about it, but that song was recorded 50 years ago!

I have said this before. If you look at the music being produced 50 years prior to the Beatles we were still in music hall (although some great writers were emerging) What is striking is how contemporary their music still is.

Well 'Rhapsody In Blue' will be 100 in a few years. And the Blues started around the same time too. And waltzs were about 50 years before that and then we can go to Schubert 50 years before that. If it's good it will last forever.
