There's a nice little twist in this story lovelyrita1. The Record Collector magazine goes back to 1980. And the publisher is Sean O'Mahony who started out with publishing a mag called The Beatle Book in the early 60's that ran until the group broke up in 1970. Well one of Sean's brainstorms was to have a contest in which he would have as a prize a true Beatle object. So he asked the boys if they had anything they would like to give for the contest and George offered his Futurama guitar which he didn't use anymore. So when the contest winner wasn't too impressed with winning the guitar Sean offered him some money in exchange for the guitar and Sean kept the guitar. For 55 years!!! lol Here's the story from the guitars auction recently.... www.bonhams.com/auctions/25431/lot/127/

Whatever money he offered the competition winner it probably wasn't £250,000.

He offered him $300US in 1964 at the height of the Beatles popularity. Which was a lot of money back then.
It didn't say who was the winner of the recent auction. I wonder if it was Olivia and Dhani?

I'm one of these people who have to finish what i'm already reading before i start reading something else. So i just finished "Pigs Might Fly, The Inside Story of Pink Floyd", fantastic book, and have now started reading the Record Collectors Beatles edition(one of 3) which covers the early years . I'm up to the Hamburg times which is fascinating reading but Record Collector have re-printed a brilliant interview with Bob Wooler. I held off buying the early albums until i saw the play Backbeat which made me go out and quickly purchase the first two albums. So if you like the early period this mag is for you, two other issues to come soon covering the later years.

Just finished Record Collector's Beatles evolution volume one last night which took us up to the end of 64 now part 2 Revolution is out. I really enjoyed part one , of course i knew most of the facts but the story is always worth re-telling. It documented their complete domination of the charts , either with singles or with their albums. The album Please Please me was number one for 30 weeks before being replace by their rivals....The Beatles and their new album With The Beatles. I highly recommend you get a hold of these. The next issue concerns a rather prolific period where they brought out some albums ha ha , this period of Rubber Soul to Magical Mystery Tour is my favourite period. www.yourcelebritymagazines.com/products/record-collector-presents-the-beatles-vol-2-revolution-1965-67

Already loving this issue , check out your newsagents and large Sainsburys to see if they still have a copy as i think August part 3 comes out. Only just starting this issue but the first article is a belter from a journalist recalling the Christmas present he got as a nine year old from his 17 year old Uncle , tickets for the Beatles Christmas show which included comedy sketches and quite a few support acts including a young Elkie Brooks and The Yardbirds with a certain E Clapton. In the 2nd half The Beatles played 10 songs including two of my favourite songs, Hard Days night and I Feel Fine, wow, what a present. A little bonus for you from the previous months issue which had a piece highlighting girl group tributes to the Beatles which made bring the mag in to check out some of the songs and this one was rated highly. It's from a band called The Beattle-ettes, possibly spelled this way because of a misprint on the Vee Jays release of Please Please Me mis -spelled as by The Beattles. The producer, George Shadow Morton produced The Shangri Las and some think this is actually The Shangri Las. There are some nods to Beatle songs along the way, see what you think.
