Hi, Although there a countless tribute bands performing Pink Floyd tunes across the world, there seems to be only two worth mentioning in a serious debate on which bands can really deliver; 'The Australian Pink Floyd Show' and 'Brit Floyd'. However, I must admit that I have only seen The Australian Pink Floyd Show and base my presumptions regarding Brit Floyd merely on clips on youtube, reveiws and a few audio recordings. As both bands are touring (or will be very soon), I think it would be interesting to hear the preferences from people who have seen both; which band has the most authentic sound, best visuals etc. etc. For More Details: Energy Systems Video

What helps them of course are the 3 stages of Beatles , The Early Moptops and Beatles suits, The Psychedelic era Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour then the long hair and bearded Beatles as they reach the Let It Be and Abbey Road part. I saw them being supported by the Counterfeit Stones who were pretty good and were able to inject a little humour into their act. I've only seen clips of The Australian Pink Floyd and musically they are very good but it seems to a rather empty experience, especially when Waters and Gilmour are still doing Floyd shows. Even when i saw the West End show of "Let It Be" it was a rather flat experience and they more or less just played the songs with very little interaction with the audience so lacked the humour of the Bootlegs. Yes if you are to have tribute bands their has to be an element of spectacle , flamboyance and humour for it to hold an audiences attention, just singing and performing Karaoke style is not enough.

It it really the Beatles backing tracks? On Aye aye Tunes are two tribute bands. The first is the Abbey Road Apples. I think Lady Madonna and Strawberry fields are using the Beatles backing tracks, with new lead vocals on Lady Maddona, which has been pitch altered, and a slowed down Strawberry Fields features John on the first part of each verse, and a replacement lead singer for the rest of each verse and the end of the song (no Cranberry Sauce vocal). On both versions, the mix of the backing is exactly the same as the original, but there's a synth on Strawberry Fields as well. The second group is Beatles Celebration who do the Pop tunes up to 1966 (The Apples appear to be 1967 onwards). Look out for And I love Her (new lead and tempo changed to slow it down) Eight Days A Week, (New joint leads and slowed down) and you can hear clearly John's vocal behind the new vocals to make it sound more authentic. I have uploaded Strawberry Fields to You Tube. Search for Beatless? Or search for Callan Cool to find it, and you'll hopefully see what I mean.
I hope you agree with me. Please post your thoughts. Thanks, Colin.
