Sadly died on Tuesday. He was of course best known for The Likely Lads. The Likely Lads and Whatever Happened to the likely lads was one of my all time favourite comedies. I have the box set of dvds with every episode from both the original series and Whatever Happened to the likely lads. The very first episode is wonderful as they have just returned from their first trip abroad in Spain, whereas Bob wanted to sample the culture and had hopes of having a romance with a foreign girl and wanted to sample Spanish food, Terry of course ate only English food and got off with a girl from Barrow and Furness. I was more drawn to the romantic notions that Bob had. Sadly it seems that Rodney Bewes and James Bolam had a falling out and had not spoken to each other in 30 years, today though James Bolam released a statement saying he enjoyed working with Rodney on the series but wanted to move on with other work once the series had came to it's end. Of course the writers went on to write Porridge which was also good but for me the Likely lads absolutely captured my time of growing up in the seventies.

Sad to hear of his passing. Underrated actor. very underrated, I loved how his character was worn down by his attempts to better himself and maybe move up the social ladder and class whereas the waster Terry seemed to be having the time of his life without any responsibilities. I also remember when they did outside shots of Newcastle, it looked as run down as Glasgow did back then .

I sat near him at a table for a function in London. He was very morose and glum.
