I have a confession to make. While i have all ways liked the music of the Beatles i am not a huge fan like you folks on here. I mainly joined this forum to discuss an item which i recently came across. I have a Abbey Road 4 track reel to reel in the original box which was recorded by AMPEX. If someone will tell me which forum here to ask questions on this item i will be happy to move it there. Thank you for your time and i look forward to hearing from yall on this item. I figured if i wanted to know about it i best ask the real experts. Have a great day!!

Hey. Welcome. Casual fans are welcome.
I guess we need to know what it looks like and if there's writing on it. Any idea what's on the tape? Any way to play it? And where did you get it?
That should help us out a bit.
Cheers

Amadeus my son brought it home from work. He works in an upscale neighborhood and it was thrown out along with a few other reel to reel tapes. It looks to be in excellent shape other than ther box having some minor damage. It is an actual Abbey Road 4 track reel to reel released by the studio. Its in the original box it came in. This is not a copy its the actual tape anyone could have purchased back in 1969, i think it was 1969 anyway. (the year i was born oddly enuff) Unfortunately i do not have a reel to reel player to test this on but will check around and see if im able to find one. Ive done a bit of research and the box cover is correct as is the company which did the recording and put it out, AMPEX. On the spine of the box it says 4 track 7 1/2 IPS STEREO THE BEATLES ABBEY ROAD L 383 (with a pic of an apple at the bottom) Apple Records
If this is what it appears to be and it works is it worth anything or will it just be a curiosity? Thanks for the welcome and the info.

Is it Capitol or EMI/Parlophone? US or UK?
Best bet is to check eBay and the like. Also you'll be able to get an idea of the approx time of issue etc.
Either way it's a collectable in good shape. Actually some of us dream of finding stuff like that in the trash. Nice find.

Hello mikhail2400 and Welcome to The Forum! Enjoy your stay and look around! Betcha your tape looks like this. Probably worth around $75-$100 depends on the condition of the tape and the box condition. An excellent find from the trash!! *click on pic for better view.

Rocky that is the exact one my son brought home. Sure wish he had found a signed Gibson to go with it, hahaha. Ok folks thank you all for helping me with my questions. When i first started modifying my 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ i found out quickly that if i wanted to know something and if i wanted the info to be correct that i should go to Jeep forums. On those forums i found people who were knowledgeable, polite, warm and willing to share their knowledge with newcomers. Since then i go to the forums subject i need and so far i have yet to find one that wasnt full of great people. Just as this one is!!! Again, THANKS ALOT!!!!!!!!

You're welcome mikhail2400 and any other Beatle questions feel free to blast away. Yes it's too bad it wasn't Paul's missing Hofner bass your son found.

Welcome to the forum. Few pieces of electronic equipment have more mystique that reel-to-reel tape recorders. The sound was(/is) superior to other formats. Or most at least.
Question: Are you from the GA that used to be in the Soviet Union, or the GA that used to be in the Confederate States of America? Just curious and nosy.
