It`s going to get busy !
Bright Magic - Public Service Broadcasting (2021) Spotify
I`ve been really looking forward to this one and I hav`nt had a chance to go to Manchester to pick it up yet , but I could not wait any longer and so it`s Spotify to the rescue.
Their last album was a bit of a low , following their Debut and the absolutely brilliant Race For Space it would take one hell of an album to get even close to those albums and sadly as much to see the tracks live with a welsh choir and miners lamps to set the atmosphere it was a disappointment .
But I`ve just sat through Bright Light and I loved it ! The theme on this wonderful album is Kraut prog and even a bit of new music . If you like Tangerine Dream , Kraftwerk and even a got a feel of Blade Runner Sound track vibe ( Ich und die Stadt ) I was so very lucky to visit Berlin before the world went to shitenhousen and this album is dripped in the city and it`s culture . Me and my mate wanted to see this tour coming up in Berlin , but with the covid mess we decided to opt for Mancunia . Apart from one track Blue Heaven I loved from the off , I`ve 3 tracks before and how good is People Let`s Dance ! So it`s a winner for me and I can not wait for November when I get to see this band for 4th time ! I love this band ! Stand Out Track Der Rhythmus der Maschinen

The Blues Album - Joanne Shaw Taylor (2021) Spotify Not picked this up yet , but it`s on my list . So it`s Spotify again . Joanne has always had an eye on Mr Bonamassa and it was only a matter of time before they would do an album together and Joe has produced it and I guess he plays on it and backing vocals and it`s his band on it and he has suggested which songs to record as the album is a cover of classic and not so classic blues numbers and I guess its a Bonamassa album with guest singer and guitar player J.S.T. But hey ho ! Am I being cynical ? Probably But the thing is that Joanne is a great talent when she rips that guitar like anyone I`ve seen and maybe her voice isn`t a 10 but I`m a huge fan , I guess she`ll be up there now with one of the most times I`ve seen an artist live . So is the album any good I hear you asking ? Well folks it`s what it says on the tin . I reckon this is her best produced album so far and apart from the Peter Green cover "Stop Messin` Around " I`ve never heard of the songs on it and saying that they nicely first time of hearing affect on you where you don`t have to sit up and listen , I guess you could wash your car while you listen to it , if you had one . Is it a top album ? , maybe not, but it`s always a good thing to have another J.S.W. album to pick from and maybe she will get a bit more confidence in future albums and if she looked at Trower`s career and how he still comes up with top notch albums I reckon she will not have to give Joe a ring and find her own niche , which is bloody tricky when your a Blues guitarist . One thing for sure though , she is incredible live . See you in November Joanne ! Stand Out Track . Let Me Down Easy 25

Thought I`d do a bit of an extra review and listen to Ringo`s new E.P. 4 tracks how hard can it be ?
Change The World - Ringo Starr (2021) . Spotify
Well folks I`ve heard worse . The title track is about the level of Ringo`s erm...level Peace and love and all that and nice and easy pop music that would be at home at an old peoples home Next up Just The Way which is Reggae little ditty which almost brings to mind Linda`s Seaside Woman . Coming Undone is Ringo`s western song which is a simple little tune . Then we have a cover Rock Around The Clock . At 2 and half minutes long is a blink and you`ll miss it version .
It`s Ringo doing Ringo and I can see that even the biggest fans of Ringo solo will be wondering why an E.P. After the fact he released one not so long ago ?. Was it so successful that he had to get another one out and ride the wave the success of the last one ? I`d love to meet someone who has bought this and the last one and give me their thoughts on them . What I`m trying to say is . Do people buy these albums (E.P.`s) because they like what they are getting ? I`m confused . Just would love to know if there are still Beatle completest`s that are buying this stuff that`s coming out . The white vinyl 50 th edition of Imagine came out the other week The thing is that it`s the same mix from the last time it came out a few years ago ! Did anyone buy it ? Is there any other fandom that gets bled dry as much as Beatle people ? I`d love a debate on that !
Anyway ! Next up should be another interesting one . It`s Yes`s (?) new one . (Or as I`m now calling them The Yes Tribute band featuring Steve Howe on zimmer frame ) This is really going to test my patience for sure .

The Quest - Yes (2021) Spotify
I`m really trying to listen to this with an opened mind and not even think this is a band that in the 70`s was one, if not the greatest Prog band to ever walked this earth . There is only Howe left and I think that Alan White is on it , but not really on it . If that makes sense I doubt anything I write makes sense and that fact that this band (?) carries on with the name of a band that was so good that it was tough to pick a fav album without doubting it the second your mentioned it .
1. The Bridge Heard this awhile back and again it sounds like a 70`s Crimson with a Jon Anderson sound a like . It`s really nothing that hasn`t passed my path before and it`s very cliche 2. Dare To Know I don`t know 3. Minus The Man This one is very much a Jon Anderson song that would be put on his solo albums or even an Magnification out take It`s so sad that the vocalist is just doing an impression of Jon . It`s not great . Leave Well Alone . The irony . Very dull and just no energy what so ever , and it`s a long one ! The Western Edge . Starting to lose the will to go any further now , but folks, I`m not letting this dull and ponderous album so far beat me to submission . I`m a fighter ! This track isn`t different from the last few tracks , I find it very ... Same. Future Memories. Bit of less keyboard wallpaper , but still really drab Music To My Ears . The irony . To think that you could get away with playing up your ex vocalist for a whole album ? Lets put some really awful backing vocals on this track to mix it up a bit ? . "It`s music to my ears , it`s a blessing in disguise " they sing ! A living Island . Nope . You know even if you listen to a song at some point you may start to pick up the "feel" of it and even might tap your foot . They try for that "It`s the last track of the album , lets leave them wanting more track" It was so ponderous Stand Out Track N/A
There are bonus tracks . But I`ve just listened to one and I`ve had enough . That was not a good album , and as I say all the time you can never judge an album with one listen but this album puts that statement to shame. I think when most people who got into Yes in the 70`s , got into them because they were at their Height, mount Olympus and some . All individual great musicians that came together and recorded some of the greatest albums in Rock history , pure Prog masterpieces and I could go on . But nothing ever lasts and we are so blessed that they left albums for us to even 50 years on still admire . Over the last ten years or so Yes have been touring and playing there albums to audiences old and new and I`m all for that . But to bring out albums that are so poor mans Yes it`s sad that they are not helping the dynasty any way shape or form . They should drop the name and just tour with the classic albums as without doubt will put bums on seats . Even this poor fool went to one of there gigs . I really can not imagine they are touring with this album and not playing any Yes classics Talk about "Go to the bar " tracks this album is full to the brim of them ! As I`ve always said "No Jon , it`s not Yes" and I don`t mean Mr Davidson . Is his real name Jon ?? So folks I hope that they don`t need to put out another album like this and if they need to pay the bills , just be a tribute band and stop trying to pretend that this is Yes . Stop it , it`s silly

Ha ha ha ha! It's not that bad. But They didn't need a Jon A soundalike. The Quebec guy was better.

Ohhh Amadeus, I'm not surprised that you like it . I really do worry about you sometimes. Anyway ! Just for fun I thought I'd read/ listen some reviews. Now I'm very cynical when it comes to YouTube reviewers , as they will absolutely get on there knee padded corduroy knees and kiss the ground they spill there biscuit crumbs on . And the biggest and funniest of them all talks the good talk and it sounds like he's reviewed the wrong album . What the hell. I can't remember now exactly what he said as my brain was fighting against the nonsensical gibberish about where Yes were (brilliant) and where they are now (a dull tribute band) , I really think he is a wind up merchant, or he just does in hope to get the next wondrous album in the post for free or get invited to Jon (not him) Davidson's house and look at all his first edition of Frank Herbert's Dune Music should be a constant flowing river and never stay in one place as it becomes stagnant. The Quest is not going to go and search for anything that is not anything but a Yes signature, as it would upset the Prog dinosaurs who still think that Asia are a new band . Anyway, let's listen to this geezer with his brand new Zappa shirt review the album that's even funnier than mine . Enjoy !

This is why I never liked record reviews. Use the biggest words you can find in the dictionary and see if you can use them describing what you are hearing on the record. That way you sound like a genius. I took to half of what this gentleman was saying and couldn't take anymore. Yes is up there with Rush, Genesis, and some other great bands (plus the Rolling Stones after Brian died) that I never liked. Don't know what it was, just never could get into listening to that type of music.

I don`t why , but I have to watch his reviews and I think he raves about Jethro Tull`s A . ( I think it was this fellow ?) It really is all about personal opinions I know but , heck I love Tull but that album was a bridge to far ! I think it`s terrible ! As I`ve said a few hundred times on this thread you can never really review an album on one listen , and I do not really take my own reviews seriously , it`s all just a bit of fun and hope people may take a listen to one of the albums because of my review . And also get a good debate going , like this ! I wish I could write more ...erm.. technical , but I`m no expert and it`s a type the first thing that drops into my little head . I`ve been playing Samantha Fish`s new album more and more and I am really starting to love this album a lot ! So if I go back to my review I bet that I have a different view of each song . Anyway . I`m almost down the last 20 albums and I really think I should do albums I really love , but I shall just see how it goes . And if anyone wants to join in Please do ! So see you soon !

Rocky, YOU WOT??? Mr Kite (Mr), Once again, ha ha ha! Anyhoo I did preorder it back in July in the fear that I wouldn't get a copy.... Ha! And you just need a Roget's Thesaurus to exchange all your regular words for more expensive ones. Instant genius. Anyroads, reviewing an album you lerv is A-OK in my books. (paperback books) Rocky, I understand the Geddy Lee voice thing alright. But when I got into them I was new to the world of shreiker singers and was entranced by the music too much to notice the voice. By the time I got around to the voice, I had already gotten used to it.

Ocean To Ocean - Tori Amos (2021) Spotify .
Keeping it up on new releases I`m going with Tori`s new outing . Not a fan , but not unfamilliar with her stuff , borrowed many of her albums over many years from the Library back in the day before the internet , and they never seemed to hit me .
So is this album going to make me sit up and take more attention of the lady who was always compared to Kate Bush .
Well.. Don`t know how to go with this one . Maybe it`s her age but her vocals are very low key and they all sound exactly the same , but with different lyrics if you get my drift . I`ve foot tapped on a few , but lost my concentration of a few . Y`know the albums where they are all basically the same "songs" but different like AC/DC albums . I`m repeating myself and it`s just like the album. Not much I can say anything....Different . I don`t think I`ll be getting this out of the Library . Stand Out Track Metal Water Wood ( It`s almost different from the rest )

I remember Tori, how could I forget her?! In the 90's when I was dating this girl that's all I heard when I went over her house! No. 1 was Alanis Morissette, you know the girl with a chip on her shoulder. Then I would hear Tori, and Liz Phair, Juliana Hatfield, Bjork, Fiona Apple, Sinead O'Connor, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, PJ Harvey, and Courtney Love. Whew I'm lucky I made it home alive!! After all these years Tori and Alanis seemed to have faired well in their looks. I would classify them as MILF now.

Ah yes Rocky the 90`s .. And I never thought I`d see MILF on a Beatle Forum .. Which leads me into my next album review . Which is from the 90`s ! It`s 30 years old and I bloody love it and it`s time for me to get U2 out of the dusty CD shelf . Achtung Baby - U2 (1991) U2 seem to be everybody`s go to band to dislike these days and it makes me mad as us old enough to remember U2 ruled the world from 85 until .. 95 ish , maybe longer . This album was a bit of jolt from the 80`s U2 and being a fan from War onwards I wasn`t bothered in least as they left the 80`s behind and brought in the 90`s with this masterpiece of Pop / Rock . I think the whole album is perfect and heck One is sublime and The Fly Even Better Than The Real Thing , Who`s Going To Ride Your Wild Horses , Mysterious Ways which were all classics and Trying To Throw Your Arms around the World . I don`t need to tell you about these songs as I`m sure you know them all . Then we have the under the radar Acrobat , Zoo Station and the wonderful Love Is Blindness . Bono was such an incredible lyricist and he was on top of his game for many a year for me and around the early 90`s along with R.E.M. ruled the airwaves and then the arenas across the world with their incredible Zoo T.V. which I was blessed to see . All the U2 haters seemed to just go on about Bono being up his own bottom And I read or heard that The Edge was a one trick pony. He`s perfect for U2 and that`s all that matters, they were not a 20 minute guitar solo band they were U2 Maybe so Bono could be a bit an ass but for me it`s all about the music and for me I thank Bono`s bottom he was around as they were no one who compete with their albums , they were all killers and no fillers . I love this album and I love U2 . Stand Out Track The Fly ( great guitar riffs ) 22

I think this is their best LP. I like The Unforgetable Fire and Joshua Tree but this just has something. I still cannot get over that a rock band and the ambient king Brien Eno worked so well. I think that opened up their sound into new places. Mysterious Ways and Even Better than the real Thing are immense. A general point I wonder if they had split after this LP they would have a better reputation. Cannot get over it is 40 plus years and counting for them.

I remember when I worked in a record warehouse and The Monkees HeadQuarters LP came out about a week before Sgt. Peppers. It was the battle of the century to see which lp would be higher in the charts. Well we all knew who won.

Have you ever reviewed a Monkees Lp or Tears for Fears or Depeche Mode?. No I haven't ! I think I did a Monkees album awhile back ? I've actually seen Tears For Fears in 1990 at the Silver Cleff awards at Knebworth. So I guess it's got to be T.F.F. ! As for Depeche Mode I think not 😄

I think Tears for Fears are a really underated band. The Hurting and Songs from the Big Chair and The Seads of Love are their biggies. I am surprised you were not into Depeche Mode A Broken Frame, Music for the Masses, Construction Time Again and Some Great Reward are decent LP's ABF is their best I think. Were you more into Echo and the Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes and OMD?.
Hope the TFF were great when you saw them. They are making a new LP apparently.
Will always have a soft spot for The Monkees. Glam Rock and The Monkees got me into music.

I not a big fan of 80's music as you may have spotted over the years 😄
It was a strange thing for me to end up watching Tears For Fears . Going off memory again, status Quo were meant to open the day at the awards , mirroring them opening Live Aid . So as a fan I was at the stage and ready to go ! And Tears For Fears came on . The story goes there manager was involved in the set up for the awards and they asked if they could play . As for Echo and the Bunnymen , I did buy the Ocean Rain album . As the decade went by I was really struggling with new music I liked . I did like the album ! Jump to 2021 and I went to a see Will Seargent at his book talk which was meant to be during the lockdown . I loved it so much I bought the book !

I actually liked a lot of 80's music.
Some of my favourite LP's of that era.
Architechture and Morality - OMD Dare - Human League (you will think it too poppy) The Lexican of Love - ABC (ditto) ABBA - The Visitors (still their high water mark. Got the new lp and love it. Hounds of Love - Kate Bush (sublime) English Settlement - XTC ub40 - Signing off (before they went cover version crazy) Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense. Robert Plant - Shakin n Stirred (at his most bonkers) R.E.M - Document Earth Wind and Fire - Raise. (Not their best LP by far but I have such happy memories of it)Lets Groove still hit home Kite - Kirsty Macoll New Order - Power Corruption and Lies. David Bowie - Lets Dance (yes he peaked in the 70 and made a sublime final LP but this was fun.) Prince - Purple Rain The Specials by The Specials. Peter Gabriel - all of them from the 80's U2 - War John Lennon - Double Fantasy (all over the place but I love it) The Pretenders - The Pretenders (if only the two original guitarists had lived)
I wanted to put Man Machine by Kraftwerk but that was 1978
