Union - Yes (1991 )
It`s Yes and some , in fact there are 8 members of past and future and even some people who must have been in the studio that day In fact at a quick count there are 29 musicians on this album . Honest ! Is it any good then , it must be it`s even got Jon on it ! Nah , in fact that saying less is more should have been written in very large letters in the studio wall Less Is More ! Just to much of long awful keyboards it takes you back to the 80`s mush As Rick said of the album "it made me cry every time I heard it". I would`nt take it that far , but it`s not the classic Yes and as we will find out over the years , it`s not the worse . Stand Out Track N/A

Boo. Actually it's not that good and half of L.A. play on it and it was basically a corporate decision as is usual when YES are at a crossroads. As for over the years, time will tell...….

We agree on that one then Amadeus ?!
Sleepwalking - Mariana Semkina (2020)
Another new album bought so far this year ! And it`s er` out of Iamthemorning, yes the band with no spaces in their name .
Well as I`ve already pointed out that band have everything I should love about them , but I struggle . So why not start with a solo album of theirs ( just two in the band )
It`s very ...Atmospheric and very dark and with lots of cellos and pianos and angelic voices , a bit like Iamthemoring . Apparently when Marianna was a kid she wanted to be a coffin maker . Yep, she`s a rum`en Do`s anyone remember All About Eve ? , it has that feel to it .
These kinda albums are not really a first time play kinda album that`s for sure . But thank heaven , I did`nt dislike as it cost me a tenner ! Do bloody love Turn Back Time though , which I`ve been listening to it for about two weeks ! I`m sure its a grower. Stand Out Track Everything Burns .

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1973)
Throwing an album everyone must hear ..Album
What can you say about this band . What can you say about the first 6 albums Absolute genius , that`s what and I`m going to give you my humble on my first bought Sabbath way back in 1979 . It`s was a mind blower .
The opening and album Title track Sabbath bloody Sabbath , what an opener and what a track , always remember this blasting at the Rock Disco back in the day and about 100 rockers singing along to Ozzy on the line "You Basterds !" Brilliant A National Acrobat Again a brilliant track and it`s almost a Prog metal song along with the last track on the album Spiral Architect As the staple of Sabbath we just get the Guitars and drums and Oz On this we get an Organ acoustic guitars and a flute ! Brilliant . Fluff A instrumental with a acoustic guitar taking the lead on this wonderful piece of music Sabbra Cadabra Again a lean to Prog metal with no other than Rick Wakeman on Piano and synths ! Again a brilliant track Killing Yourself To Live Another anthem back in my teenage years and I guess many more working class lads who escaped the working week with this gem telling us "You work your life away and what do they give ? Your only killing yourself to live " Who Are You For me the weakest on the album , but still a great track Looking For Today A song that seems to get forgotten about when you mention Sabbath best songs Always loved this one . Spiral Architect The track that I reckon opened the doors for their next album Sabotage Very Prog and with strings and and again a masterpiece of Sabbaths and what a way to close the album .
Sabbath at the top of their game and it shows , without doubt a masterpiece and never fails to have you hitting the volume to 11

Once I Was An Eagle - Laura Marling ( 2013 )
To get over my disappointment of not getting a Laura Marling ticket I splashed out on 3 Cd`s of hers as its about time I got them !
So I started with her fourth album . Well , what can I say the first 5 songs are just sublime . Take The Night Off has that Led Zepp 3 feel to it with a touch of Nick Cave . Her vocals are just ... Perfect . It rolls straight into the title track (kinda ) I Was An Eagle "You Know" again with that seamless flow into each song , again a great track Master Hunter again has that Led Zepp 3 feel with that fast tempo you get on Gallows Pole , which is really weird . Little Love Caster A slow pacer and just Laura and an Spanish acoustic guitar (?) and a haunting cello , hitting almost 6 mins the longest track on the album . A 16 track album with a 2 min Interlude at half way to get your breath back and it really just still hits the mark in the second half
All in all it`s a wonderful album and it makes me not getting a ticket even more painful Stand Out Track Any of the first 4 tracks ..

Who - The Who (2019)
"Hope I die before I get old" , sang the Roger and the lads back in 65 .
Well it`s now 2020 and the Who are in the UK this month , so I thought I`d bite the grenade and listen to The O`s album from last year .
Now, I must tell you all , I love The Who . If it was`nt for my mate playing me Live At Leeds , Who`s Next and of course the greatest Rock album ever made Quadrophenia I would have maybe become a Punk or a new romantic or even worse 80`s Pop music . God bless my mate and God bless the O`
OK then . Who
Roger still has a voice and Pete seems to write songs like he must get as many cliches in his songs . And it seems they left off from the 80`s album that were flat and if it was`nt the fact that they were carrying the torch of Rock from the 70`s I`m sure they would have been ripped apart from the Music critics and fans a like ( yep , I did`nt like them very much ) But this album seems to be playing it safe and we get easy listening 3 minute songs that could have come from any over 60`s bands like 10cc and Moody Blues Not the Who , I grew up loving . Pete only sings one of the tracks and it not great and if anything maybe the worst one I heard in a very long time With just one listen , it`s not for me and I maybe thankful I`m not going to see them this month as these songs will be "Go to the bar " songs which is sad when that was never even dreamt of back in the day at a Who gig . It`s strange that bands like The Who and Stones are still at it today and not really doing there legacy any good bringing out very below par albums . It`s one of them , a below average album is better than no album at all . Make you think what The Beatles would have sounded like if they were still recording today . God bless the wives I guess I will always bless the day I got into The Who , but if this was my first Who album , it would without doubt been my last . Stand Out Track N/A

I didn't think it was too bad but you're right that Pete is trying to make it sound like 'The Who'. Not much new here. But Roger sounds much better at this age then Macca does!

Are we in agreement again Amadeus ? OK then I have some humble pie to eat on that last post . I may get (99% possibility) a Ticket for free for The Who tomorrow for next week . As a Mancunian it`s an unwritten law never turn down anything that`s free . Well , talk about gigs , Ann Wilson tickets are on sale Friday for The Ritz ....Manchester !!! But if your a O2 customer , like yours truly , it`s tomorrow at 10.00.am ( remember what happened last time ) And you may or may not know Alanis ( Goddess. 95/98 ) Morrissette is touring with the 25th anniversary of the utter brilliant Jagged Little Pill I was so so very lucky to see her back in 95 and I was besotted and then saw her a year later supporting Neil Young ! Yep , I love the Alanis (95/98) So as I guess you and everyone who was around that time bought the bloody wonderful album But who bought Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie ? I did and I bloody loved it , so much I think it`s better than J.L.P. Album you must hear album ! Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie - Alanis Morrisette (1998 ) Coming in at 70 minutes and 17 new songs ! I can`t go through all of them as I`ve got work tomorrow and I`m not a fast keyboard warrior But lots of highlights such as the opener Front Row which is a cracker followed by the cracker Baba which is a rocker ! Thank U was the big hit off the album and with that unforgettable Video with Alanis walking about starkers Most of her songs like J.L.P. seem very personal in such a way of Joni Mitchell did . and The Couch really is very .. Joni ! UR is a wonderful song very much in the same vain as J.L.P. ( we get a harmonica ) Again with 90% of the songs on the album , the lyrics are incredible Would Not Come What a tune , a angry Alanis with a great guitar Having listened to it tonight I really forgot how much I loved this album at the time , it`s really sad that over the years you leave albums behind to gather dust . This album may have been overshadowed by J.L.P. but it really needs to be listened too . Stand Out Track (Of many ) Baba I think Heart is on the cards soon as 79

This agreement will have to stop Amadeus ! Well then . Back in the early 80`s I was an avid watcher of the revamped Old Grey Whistle Test hoping to come across some Music ( It was the 80s ) One week the fella on the show introduced this new band Video with "Bob Dylan Liked this band so much he wrote them a song " Ear pricked up and I sat listened . It was , a bit of alright , no hair gel , no make up and no keyboards and most importantly .Guitars ! It was Lone Justice . Bought the single , bought the album and as it turns out there very first Gig at the Manchester Polytechnic . Me and my mate got in for free . ( Its a long story ) I was a fan . It was a bit of a strange deal being a fan of them as after one more studio album and not coming back to the UK (they ended up supporting U2 a lot ) The next thing their lead singer left the band . That was Maria McKee I was a fan ! Lucky to see her tour in the early 90`s (I forget the exact year ) and I loved her even more , she was brilliant live . And then again she disappeared for a bit and back on the road again in the early 00`s with 2 brilliant albums and I got to see her 3 times in a space of a few years, the last time was not to great as her album Late December in my humble was very poor , so much its my least fav of hers and I should know I have them all . And once again she disappeared . That was 13 years ago . She was now come back and left her hubby and come out . So then it`s march 13th 2020 and Maria has released a brand new double album La Vita Nuova - Maria McKee (2020) I had heard already 3 tracks from this album and they were really good , so I had high hopes with this new album and I can`t tell you how I struggled with her last album I really thought her career was all over But this album has a few very good songs , so much they hit you right away which is`nt something I tend to get with double albums first time around . Her voice seems to not have lost it`s intensity, is the only way to describe it . Some tracks even sound like they have come off Life Is Sweet album , which is my fav of her solo stuff most of the tracks are very Piano lead with lots of strings more than a band of drums , guitars or Bass With a first listen it`s not been easy to really have a overall opinion of it , but it has not been a hard listen . I would`nt recommend it to a first time listen to a non Maria believer , but it has a interesting feel to it . I think I`m going like it . Stand Out Track Ceann Bro 78

Stand Out Track N/A 80 I was given this as a Xmas present on cd (not Vinyl ?) and played it Xmas day and was pretty underwhelmed by it all and have not even given it a 2nd listen . If i was to get a who album i'd prefer one from their early days or in their prime. I saw them live at Wembley Stadium last summer and they were pretty good, especially The Tommy part with orchestra worked well but criminally they played an acoustic version of Won't Get Fooled again, as i say this is criminal. I see they have just cancelled their tour because of the coronavirus but tickets didn't seem to be shifting and i saw lots of comments at the sky high prices putting people off. Initially they were down for two nights at Wembley stadium last summer that dropped to one night and they had to reduce tickets prices and it still wasn't full . The promoter lost a lot of money . The tour they have cancelled now was in smaller more appropriate venues but as i say high prices were putting loyal fans off . I think when they reschedule for next year they will probably call it a day which will be sad as i've always rated them above The Stones . It seems all our Rock giants have great difficulty saying goodbye. We are coming to the end of an era.

Spot on L.R.
I have to admit I really enjoyed seeing The Who live for the last 10 years or so , they seem to still have it But as you say this last tour has`nt sold well , says it all when I ended up with a free ticket Me and my mate are avid Who fans and Gigs goers and still we did`nt really fancy paying a fortune to watch screens all night . In Daltrey`s latest book "Thank`s A Lot Mr Kibblewhite " which a crackin book btw he talks about this never ending touring they on and saying this is the last tour and they arnt` going to stop until they have to That`s the love they have for touring in front of there fans who have been with them for a long time . Love The Who, hate big arenas .

As you are massive Who fans is there a logic that states that they were a shadow of themselves after Entwistle passed. It was bad enough without Moon but that was two sections of that heavy rythmn section gone.

Exactly , they were four completely different and talented individuals, this is the problem when a band member dies or in this case two. They did recruit Zak Starkey as drummer but how do you replace Moon ? They have such a good back catalogue that deserves to be heard but i'm glad i saw them years ago with all 4 members . Queen had a similar situation , a fantastic back catalogue then Freddie died , it took them years to find Adam Lambert and although he's not Freddie he's an incredible vocalist and camp enough to put on a show.

As you are massive Who fans is there a logic that states that they were a shadow of themselves after Entwistle passed. It was bad enough without Moon but that was two sections of that heavy rythmn section gone. I`m going off memory here , but I`m sure in interviews over the years that Daltrey and Townshend have admitted it was never the same when Moon died . I`m thankful they carried on after Moon died as I missed out on seeing the original line up as I was a wee bit to young , but saw them in 79 with Kenny Jones on drums Saw them a few years later and you could see they wer`nt really in the groove by then . But since Zak came along they sounded fantastic and who would ever thought they would tour and play the whole of the greatest Rock album Quadrophenia . But I guess age and then loosing Entwistle has not helped them keep up the legacy they had back in the day . I guess that when a band have a great chemistry and talent they must find it tough when a member has left . If you how Led Zeppelin are perceived today , they are still are known from the albums and Gigs they did almost 40 odd years ago and still thought of the best Rock band in the history . So there decision to call it a day when Bonzo died and not tried to carry on without one of the greatest drummers in Rock . It seems a logical thing to do . Interesting how The Stones managed to go on with a loss of not only the an original member Brain Jones and then Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor and it did`nt make any difference . I suppose the band will go on for as long as Mick and Keith are in the band , but if you`ve seen Keith`s live playing over the years he may as well be not there . I`d love to meet a Stones fan (I am a Stones fan up till 82 ) and ask him what his thoughts are on the band today . I saw the Stones 38 years ago and they in my eyes were "Old men " then . A scary thought indeed .

I think the Stones are in a strange place where people go to gigs just to see them like some kind of stately home visit. Would it ever have been pheasable for the remaining members of Queen and Who to work together like some supergroup (like in the 1960's) Interesting that The Beatles, Zep (no way could they replace Bonham), even Abba retired and kept going doing other things. Interesting that a couple of years Ringo and Paul were on stage together and there was not a massive comment about it being a Beatles reunion.

Well with all this chaos in the world at the moment and all my hobbies involve lots of people cancelled , I`ll be going to be posting a lot on here And here we go .
Age of Aquarius - Villagers Of Ioannina City (2019) Via You Tube
A random listen and they so happen to be touring the U.K. in April , but that could be on hold..
A Greek Folk, Psychedelic Rock Stoner band and heck ! I really got into this album from the off ! And indeed you get all the above and even , I guess they are Greek Bagpipes It`s tough to really describe Stoner albums from any other stoner albums , I think you either love them or hate them , but more importantly you have to give them a few listens . With no info and no lyrics I still have a strong felling it`s concept . Shock ! Yep I enjoyed most of it and I can see me investigating on the rest of their albums and hey ! maybe get to see them in April . Stand Out Track Father Sun . (?)

I`m going to close my eyes and pull a CD out of the rack I`ve really lost all sense of what I`ve covered these last few years . Do I need medication or a filofax .. Might give this a try as well
