It is not disputed that John and Paul had not met since 1976.
John seemed positive and also negative about Paul in his 1980 interviews. Paul in a Youtube interview said he didn't believe 'The Long and Winding Road' was his 'last cusp' as John had claimed in Playboy.
All 4 members seemed to not be interested in a reformation at this time.
Paul has since said him and John were having nice telephone chats about their cats in 1980. This is surprising as they both now had their own friends and family inside and outside of the music business.
What is more surprising is Paul had said him and John had booked a studio to work together in,just prior to Johns death. Yoko may not have allowed this and had hiden a good luck telegram Paul sent John when John had returned to the studio after 5 years. However John had recently met Ringo and agreed to write for him, so who knows.
Be good to know if there is any more information on there relationship.

Anything is possible. At this years Liverpool Beatleweek I saw Andy Peebles being interviewed. He was the last person to interview John Lennon two days before he was murdered. The interview was broadcast just following his death but the plan was for 5 or 6 part interview series. Andy had some casual meetings with John over dinner that did not form part of the formal interview. Andy states that John wanted to tour again and in the UK. John asked Andy who the current tour promoters where in the UK and if he thought they would be interested in promoting a tour in the UK for him! Andy was flabbergasted that John would even question this.
I hadn't heard this story before I saw the interview but if true then clearly John was of a new mindset then and clearly up for getting back to the limelight......as well as sailing back to Liverpool.
All these revelations make his death even more sadder...if that's possible.

Yeah John was keen on releasing a quickie follow up to 'Double Fantasy', probably with Yoko on again. Release some more singles, then start touring. The tour would have included Europe if there was a demand.

Fred Seamans book 'The last days of John Lennon' is very interesting. And believable.
He was John's PA for 2 years so probably the closest to him, after Yoko. In my view it doesn't put John in a bad light.
It explains how he got the urge to start writing songs again. 'Living on Borrowed Time' was written after hearing a bit of a Bob Marley song.

Wasn't Fred Seaman accused of stealing Lennon's diaries from the Dakota?

John heard Paul's 'Coming Up' in Bermuda while on a car. 'I can't get Pauls song out of my head' he told Seaman.
He told Seaman to buy 'Mccartney 2' which he listened to and said was much better than 'Mccartney'. He also told Fred Paul was the one person who could bring the best out of him.

Wasn't Fred Seaman accused of stealing Lennon's diaries from the Dakota? Yes, straight after John died. Seaman said John had asked him to pass his diaries to Julien if anything happened to him. That may be true. Or Fred thought he could sell them to the highest bidder. Neither happened.

So what happened to the diaries. They ended up back with Yoko. Fred said a couple of Yoko's heavies roughed him up and got them. I believe the police were involved as well. Legally, Fred had stolen them.

I am not sure. If he did it didn't result in a prison sentance. Yoko tried to block Fred publishing his book around a decade later.

I suspect a lot of Albert Goldman's book was true. Of which Fred Seaman was a source. However Goldman put a very dark and negative slant on his writing.
Seaman's book is more positive and makes John seem pretty balanced for a huge rock star. His marriage with Yoko wasn't perfect. But whose marriage is ? His relationship with a teenage Julian was not perfect, which all fathers can relate to.
John was taking 5 years off but was not a recluse as claimed. Highlighted in him writing a lot his final tracks in Bermuda. Most of us would also take a long hiatas if we had the money.
