So, the latest is a 50 year too late outrage over Lennon's apparent portrayal of crippled/handicapped/physically challenged folks. I thought it was a joke on the groups who all say: PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR, YEAH! Are you ready to rock??!!
Anyhow, Gosh! So damn sensitive. If he was a pop star now, maybe the moral minority would cause a fuss but this was 50 years ago and nice or not it was the way things were. Why crucify him now. In school we used to act silly too. Call each other fag etc... and I recall no fags getting injured. Is it just me?

I happened to stumble upon the T.V. the other night that was showing all the wrong doings that went on in the 60`s on T.V.
He who has not sinned cast the first stone . Exactly.
Now how can you have a discussion about what Lennon did without upsetting someone?!
I grew up in the 60` and 70`s with red hair , you would have thought I was from another planet ! No one ever stood up for me ! It made you stronger The case is In those days that`s how it was Jesus imagine back then in the schools Canes , slippers , rubber soles (not the album ) and even a chair was once thrown at a kid Talk about abuse ! These people were being payed for it ! But it`s just things you accepted , right or wrong.
No one could really say anything about Lennon`s antics as they certainly would all be hypocrites The show also showed that evil villains were always stuck in a wheelchair of from China or some dark continent Are all those script writers going to be put on trial ?
Anyway Lennon was doing that kinda thing long before he was famous and a million other kids An insecurity , being humorous a way of fitting in , these things went on back then and with everything else you grow up and get on with your life the best you can .
Imagine the so called Music Videos that are around today were shown back in the 60`s ?! My dear ol` Ma would have thrown the T.V. out on the street .
Today`s world is not so P.C. far from it .

It's not exactly a revelation that's suddenly come to light. It's well known that Lennon made a habit if doing this in his late teens and early twenties. I can see that it might offend some people and I don't find it particularly funny but I don't think a full scale examination with judge, jury and executioner is warranted.

Anyone remember The Archie Bunker show in N.A. in the 70's?? Lot's of prejudice back then that can't be said now.
Another funny thing is, there is (BET) black entertainment channel. Imagine a white channel??? OMG that would cause an uproar!!
I'm not prejudice, just putting it out there.

Having a son with ASD and working with handicap children I find this clip rather sick. I have been told by a lot of people that he did this a lot. Not what I want to see anybody doing. being 50 odd years ago is no excuse, it is a vile sick act in my book. Not everyone was doing this back then. Yes we all did everything in school, but we grew out of it. John is not a schoolboy in this clip. My dad would have done me in if he had caught me doing something like this. It saddens me to see him do it, it really does. I just hope he had regrets about it in later life. John had a go at Rory a few times over his stammer, mocking him for it, until he was put in his place by someone. The guy had dark moments at times.
This is not a hang John reply. I hate seeing this by anyone. There is no place for it.

You're right, being John Lennon is not an excuse to be forgiven for actions that would cause offence carried out my someone else.
I think Lennon did speak about this in later life and why he did it. I can't quite remember what he said about it but will try and find what he did say. McCartney has definitely spoken about it in interview.

If he did then I am glad as he must have been reflecting on it.
I have never seen it before and was shocked by it. As shocked as I am when I see others who have done it.

I will try and find what he said about. It won't be a justifiable reason but interesting to know how he tried to rationalise it.

As long as he spoke about it that means he reflected on it. We all do daft things, learning from them is what matters.

Well Jerry Lewis was doing that kinda schtick about 10 years before Lennon and everyone took it as comedy acting and laughed.

It's like anything else OSR the first time someone does it, OK we'll let it slide, the second and third time it ain't funny anymore. Just like Richard Pryor saying the 'N' word all the time, OK enough is enough it ain't funny anymore. Same way with Andrew Dice Clay using four letter words. Where is he now? His chewing gum lost its flavor on the bedpost overnight. I have faith in the human race on crap like this to make the right decision.

I'm betting Brian chewed his ass out for doing that. I remember he did that little foot stomping bit at the '64 DC concert.

I was saying that to someone last night. Brian would have pulled him up for that for sure.

Perhaps, but that had been part of John's stage routine probably since the Quarrymen. Brian must have seen him do that countless times and, obviously by the time of that TV show, hadn't managed to stop him doing it. Also, Brian was a target of John's acid humour. When Brian was writing his autobiography he asked for suggestions for the title. I'm sure all members here know what John suggested.

John Lennon had his own way of dealing with life. It is well documented that every town they toured, people would bring in their sick/crippled kids and have them touch them as if it would cure them, and I'm sure it took it's toll on them seeing stuff like that, night after night, amongst other things.
I definitely forgive him for his sins, and we shouldn't be persecuting him after death.
RIP John Lennon
