I couldn't find anything ever being put up by John's backup band of 1972-73 on the Forum so I offer a little info on where they are now. From May 11,1972:
*also on the show was actress Shirley MacLaine.
In this song we have 1)Stan Bronstein on Sax and 2)Rick Frank on drums both founding members of the band in 1967. On bass we have 3)Gary Van Scyoc a member of the band starting in 1971.4)Adam Ippolito on keyboards also a member starting in 1971.And last 5)Wayne 'Tex' Gabriel on guitar.
1) Stan is still living he will be 77 on July 17th. on 7-19-2006 he was in a terrible auto crash and was in critical condition for awhile. Today he still suffers from that accident and cannot work and is on disability. 2) Rick passed away on Dec. 7,1998. 3) Gary is still alive and resides in Waynesburg, Pa. and is still in the recording business. 4) Adam is also still alive. 5) Wayne "Tex" passed away in May 2010.

I thought the band was great. I would be interested in peoples opinions on Johns voice as I thought it was still in decent R & R shape. Even from the old clips you can tell how charismatic he was.

Thanks for posting this Rocky. Yes, really good backing band - they would have to be to work with Lennon.
I seem to remember two bass players on the Live In New York City concert. The guy was wearing a Kaftan and glasses if remember rightly. Jim Keltner was also on drums.
I think John still had a great voice. It just wasn't very well gigged at that time because he hardly did any shows and certainly no tours. It doesn't matter how talented a singer you are and how much you rehearse. This won't guarantee a great performance. If John did a full on tour in the 70's, you would have heard a much better singer live.
Look at some of Paul's vocal performances in the 70's. Absolutely incredible. The only difference between them was regular live performance.

You're welcome mrm. You are correct about Jim Keltner and the extra bass player for the concert was John Ward. Here's something else I was never aware of, that Adam Ippolito the keyboard player for Elephants Memory and for that concert actually sued John & Yoko for something like $70 million dollars!!! www.leagle.com/decision/1989450150AD2d300_1331.xml/IPPOLITO%20v.%20LENNON

No way!! Yoko's lawyers got around it saying it was ok that she pretended playing the piano. lol
He got paid for the concert. Min. scale wage, probably about $300 and a couple of joints. ha-ha

And John would have us believe that Yoko was a classically trained pianist.

Check out this classic! *a little footnote: That's B-movie star Barbara Loden on bongos. Who died tragically from breast cancer in NYC a few months before John was murdered in 1980.
