Great post Rocky, it's so ridiculous that it's funny. I was going to make some remark about the youth of today but my niece's and nephews seem to know enough about the Beatles without me whispering in their ears, maybe they're on the school curriculum now?

What worries me is that this seems to represent some form of cultural myopia. All music seeps into each other so West's fans also might not know Bessie Smith, Sister Rosetta Tharp, Louis Armstrong, Gil Scott Heron all touchstones for US R&B and the forerunners of US music.
I find it rather sad.
Postscript. Could this also be an indication of the demise of decent pop journalism. I recall many UK artist chatting endlessly in interviews about artist that they had grown up listening to and who had influenced;
Hence
Bowie = The Velvet Underground Led Zeppelin = Everything from Robert Johnson to The Electric Prunes. Slade = Chuck Berry Alison Moyet = Billy Holliday
And where do we begin with the influences on The Beatles.
