Hi everyone, no doubt the majority of members here are familiar with this famous Beatles gig venue in Aldershot back in 1961. I have established that the Palais Ballroom was located on the corner of Perowne Street and Queens Road but i am looking for a photograph of the original building. The location for this venue often gets mixed up with another building near by but i have been told that it is this one on the corner. Indeed i believe that what you see here is the original building but a car park now stands to the rear where the stage and part of the dance floor would have been. Does anyone know what the building looked like back in 1961? I would be most grateful Regards Chris P Attachments:

I couldn't find any pics of the building before it burnt down, but I did find this interesting shot of the little parking lot that was suppose to be the ballroom. It looks like a window replacement company is using it now. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-25066737.html*You have to click on 'Street View' and go to the right down to the end of the street. You'll see a green van in the parking area. Now Wikipedia says Angela's School of Dance is using the building now. So if you go around to Queens Rd. to the front you'll see that part of the building. So what I'm thinking is you entered the building thru Angela's and the ballroom was in the back and that is what burnt down.

Did the palais have a street number as the image I found had a bin numbered 56 in front of the middle building.

That is what is confusing, because I've read the Palais Ballroom was on Queens Rd. which would be Angela's School, but then they show you a pic of that empty lot which is on 54 Perowne St. and is that yellow building - DG Glazing Glass Co. Because that is what is their store front.

I am surprised that no one in Aldershot has sorted this out for the Beatles community and am amazed that no historical picture exists of the Palais. Very unusual.

Well Aldershot is a military town and home of the British Army, so they probably could care less since it has nothing to do with war.
