The main reason I put up this interview was about half way through the interveiw Sir Paul is still bitching about the songs he wrote with John. Says he will only perform songs he wrote while with the Beatles and says "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" is a perfect example. Most people think that is John's song because he sang it, but no it's my song John just owned the poster. ----Leave it go Paul, nobody cares!

You've really got to question the Being For The Benefit of Mr Kite claim by Paul. I know I wasn't there when the song was written but something would have come out before now if it where true. Lennon and McCartney just didn't give each other lead vocals on songs the other had written. They where too competitive with each other. Up until the last few months, Paul has never spoke about the song. Now all of a sudden he's written it!! I'm certain I have read/heard George Martiin say that John wanted to 'hear the sawdust in the ring' when starting to record it.
I know Lennon basically started the bitching in the Playboy interview in 1980 about who wrote what etc but he's not here any more and I find it really sad that McCartney feels the need to make such outlandish claims. I can only imagine it's all to do with insecurity - I know that sounds ridiculous when talking about Paul McCartney but where John was concerned I feel there were definite insecurities.
Very simplistically, Lennon was the driving force behind the band in the early/mid years and McCartney was the driving force during the mid/latter years. Without each of their contributions in those periods, The Beatles career would not have panned out the way it did. Why can't Paul just be content with this?

I think Paul says in the interview that they wrote it together, I don't think he's claiming it as his own. That being said, saying, "We wrote it together", is rather a vague statement in that we don't know how much of Paul's input was used on the song. For example, we all know John contributed the middle eight of, "Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend", on 'We can work it out', yet we still subconsciously, or maybe consciously attribute it to Paul, and rightly so....he wrote the Lions share of the song and should therefore take most of the credit. I wouldn't be surprised if the same has happened here with 'Being for the benefit of Mr Kite'.... but this time with Paul aiding John.

I haven't actually listened to the interview yet. No doubt McCartney did assist in someway but it had to be Lennon's original idea. Lennon has been interviewed saying 'I'm not proud of the song. I was just going through the motions because we needed a new song for Sgt Pepper.'
My view is, why doesn't McCartney play Beatle songs associated with Lennon or Harrison for that matter. I would rather have their songs played live than not and who better to do them than McCartney. He just doesn't need to stake some sort of claim to them.

I listened to the interview and am rather nervous even making any kind of statement on the Beatles but to me it still feels like there are tensions bubbling under the radar decades after the split.

I also thought when Sir Paul wanted the songwriting credits changed to McCartney-Lennon it was a little strange and someone had put him up to it. Maybe Heather? Who has the power to whisper in Sir Paul's ear now?

Blue Meanies aren't real. like Sasquatch and African elephants.
It does get a bit embarrassing after awhile. Most casual fans just don't care who wrote what. They just like the music. The ones who are a little more devoted already KNOW who wrote what. And those who think they know but got it wrong, they're the type of folk who keep up with The Kardashians, so they don't matter. When this generation is gone, nobody will care and the record will be already set. It won't matter to Sir Paul anymore. It won't matter to Yoko or anyone.
I think things will have settled down to the point where it's the BBEATLES as a group the folks sittin' around philosophising, will be discussing, not the individuals. If there's anything left to sit aorund on...

If there's anything left to sit around on... I'm thinking in a hundred years people will be listening to music on wax cylinders or 78's again.
