I was just listening to Come Together, one of my favourite tracks on Abbey Road, but having REALLY listened to it I came to the conclusion that it doesn't sound like The Beatles! To my mind it seems from an entirely different musical era, maybe 10 years hence (i.e. late Seventies).
I know they were using EMI's newly installed 8 track but would that explain how different this particular track sounds both sonically and musically?
What are your thoughts?

Hi The End - One interesting aspect to that song is that it is really quite sparse in instrumentation. I haven't gone back and listened to check this after reading it, but George Martin said they basically just played it live in the studio. He recalls the song as one of the ones where everybody played exactly the right notes -- and especially no more than than the right notes. A masterpiece of sparse perfection ! I guess the piano solo would have been overdubbed, but who knows? BTW, I have a hard time saying it doesn't sound like the Beatles ... too much left brain imprinting permanently done by now ...

I have never really got into the song much, not particularly one of my favourites. Not being a native speaker, I probably have never understood the lyrics very well if there is anything to understand at all. It's true, it doesn't sound like 'I'll Get You' for instance, but to my opinion it does fit in the line that John drew from The White Album (Yer Blues for instance).

What part of the lyrics don't you understand Bobber? They're quite straightforward really Click www.strawberrywalrus.com/cometogether.html
