Paul used his new Hofner bass for the first time. And he still has it today and uses it in concert.

Rocky, do you mean his second Hofner? He got his first Hofner well before this.

Yes the second one. His first one, with the close pickups, he got in Hamburg in April of '61 and we all know it was stolen sometime in Jan.'69. It was never seen again and as soon as Amadeus cleans out under his bed I think it will be found. lol

Was it stolen from Twickenham?

Beatles Gear says it was last seen at Abbey Roads studio during the Get Back sessions. I've also read that it was stolen out of Sir Paul's house. Someone has a Facebook page setup trying to find it. I personally think Yoko nicked it or paid someone to do it.

Quite possibly. It's claimed she tipped off Japanese customs in 1979.

If you listen to Sir Paul on that video he says he had a couple of them stolen. Thank god for Mark Lewisohn, Andy Babiuk and people like them for writing these things down or we would never know the truth now about those early days. lol

I'd like to. If I can find the dosh.
I've played the Hofner bass and others like it. I prefer a hard crunchy sound to my bass, a la Chris Squire/John Entwhistle and you just can't get that with a hollow body.

Yes I will! It's the early Beatle years (Tune In: first volume) I'm most interested in!

Has anyone read the new Quarrymen book by Jesse Russell and Ronald Cohn yet?
