Getting back to the American release v. the British one:
On the cover, I was always under the impression that they were forming the semaphore signals for H E L P, but without the flags. I was misinformed.
1. None of the letters is H, E, L, or P. 2. The American release has them in different order from the British release. The British release has George, John, Paul, and Ringo (reading left to right). This would spell "nujv." 3. The American release has British release has George, Ringo, John and Paul. "Nvuj."
A little bit of worthless information for you.

I knew the semaphore never spelled out HELP but why, in their infinite wisdom, did Capitol change the order of them on the cover? Was it an alternative shot from the shoot or changed in the photo studio from the same shot?

The reason for the change is quite simple. They wanted Paul's left hand to point to the Capitol logo on the LP.

Okay, now I have a question:
Was the original cover photography from one picture with the four of the in it, or is it separate pictures? With all that snow it's hard to tell. But to answer Mr. Mustard's question, the American cover is the same pictures or from the same picture that appears on the British cover. I remember the semaphore scene from the movie (I believe from the Ticket to Ride video) but it has been some time now. The DVR I recorded it on conked out and had to be discarded.

I just googled "semaphore on help." The word "album" filled in automatically. Wikipedia confirmed the NUJV/NVUJ lettering I had posted and Rocky's post about Paul's left hand pointing to the Capitol logo. I thought Rocky was cleverly making that up, but he just knows some stuff.

I thank you for the recommendation mm, but there are people on here more worthy than I, Amadeus for one. I just remember this stuff because I asked myself the same questions when these albums came out in '65. lol
