A lot of people do not know that the PEGGY SUE that Buddy Holly sang about was a real person. Her name is now Peggy Sue Gerron. They were friends in high school and then she married Buddy Holly's friend and drummer Jerry Allison.
With the exception of Yoko Ono, I wonder how many other non-famous women had incredibly famous songs NAMED after them. "My Sharona" comes to mind (Sharona Alperin)
Any suggestions?

As we all know, there really was a LUCY. She was Julian's friend. Dear Prudence. That was Prudence Farrow. Martha My Dear. She was McCartney's Old English Sheepdog.

I read somewhere that McCartney named his sheepdog after his babysitter, on whom he had had a crush as a child. So "Martha My Dear" may have been about a real human being.

The indie band Camera Obscura did a great song called "Dory Previn." Obviously about ... Dory Previn.

Carol Mountain. Brian Wilson's old girlfriend. He wrote a song about her, with lyrics by Tony Asher. Brian told Tony to put the phrase "oh Carol, I know" and Tony thought he said "Caroline, No." The song appeared on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album.
Not to resurrect old threads, or anything.

"OH Carol" is indeed about Carole King. She also wrote "Oh Neil" to return the favor, but it didn't go anywhere.

Bowie - Letter to Hermione. Rolling Stones - Angie. Didn't Chris Stein from Blondie write Sunday Girl about Debbie Harry.
