Sorry Forum but upon even closer scrutiny, the harmonica on FMTU is out of tune not just in the middle but at the end as well. It looks like both of these tracks are lost. Let's be thankful that it IS in tune on Pls Pls Me.

Let's be thankful that it IS in tune on Pls Pls Me. It only seems to be you Roscoe that is bothered by this. I bet a hell of a lot of recorded music is out of tune in the true technical sense I.e. the cycles per second of someone singing or playing an instrument does not correspond to the pitch. However this is irrelevant in art and, as music is art, the fact that a harmonica may or may not be out of tune is also irrelevant providing the listener enjoys it. Both are popular songs and enjoyed by millions of people so neither are 'lost'.

Just for trivia buffs, the last time John used a harmonica on record was for the 1971 song "Oh Yoko'. The last time as a Beatle was "Rocky Raccoon".

I seem to recall that D McClinton( like Julian) uses a chromatic on Hey Baby--- maybe i am wrong. I don't necessarily agree that the Pls Pls Me solo is not bluesy. I kind of look at all harmonicas as blues. It certainly is not a mainstream Jazz or R&R instrument. With the exception of I'M A Loser, i can't recall where it is ever used again. There is no reason blues( or anything else) should be out of tune. I have discovered something else in the last few yrs. Big name jazz musicians like C Parker, Coltrane, D Gillespie, M Ferguson M Davis, S Rollins etc cannot even play their instruments in tune--- they're just a bunch of hacks. I think John made a quite derogatory statement about the music at one time and he was right. Sorry to burst ur bubble... But Coltrane/Davis/Rollins etc are hacks and cant play in tune? You have to be kidding right?
