There is a new drama premièring on Sky Arts (& Sky Arts HD) in the UK later this month, called "Snodgrass" (I've no idea why it's called that!) Anyway, the premise is, it's 1991 and John Lennon is unemployed and living in Manchester, looking back on his failed life after he quit The Beatles in 1962. The band had minimal success back in the 60s, and are just going back on the road, without John, for a 30th anniversary Merseybeat revival tour. Apparently John looks back with anger on the wasted opportunities he and his former band mates had "We could have been bigger than The Hollies!" John is being played by Ian Hart, who as most of you will know played John back in the 90s in "Backbeat". I'm really looking forward to seeing this!

I like the reason they give for John quiting the Beatles. They released 'How Do You Do It' instead of 'Love Me Do'. lol I think they should have used they made him wear a suit instead of his leathers!

John is being played by Ian Hart, who as most of you will know played John back in the 90s in "Backbeat". he also played John in The Hours and Times, that B&W film about what may have happened between John & Brian in Spain it seems his go to part is John Lennon

Do you know what else is a little weird about Ian? He was born on Oct. 8, 1964, in Liverpool! Yep the day before John's 24th birthday! I bet he was on pins and needles on Dec.7th, 2004! lol

I was watching 'Bates Motel' last night on A&E and Ian was on! He has the part of the father of a girl that likes Norman Bates.

'Snodgrass' was shown last night (25th) or maybe earlier in the week on TV. I have it recorded so will be watching it later today. It was called 'Snodgrass' apparently because that was the name of John's boss (so my daughter informs me!)Did any of you watch it and, if so, what do you think? I'll report back with my observations.

I watched it last night .
It was very good .
Would John Lennon really have been an out of work man and behind on his rent if he had left The Beatles ? I think not . Very funny in parts , but not on long enough , half an hour .

I was always a fan of Johns Sardonic humour during interviews and the like so was glad to see a 50yr old Lennon ripping it up verbally in the above mentioned drama. However...as Mr Kite mentions, I don't think John would have quite ended up in the predicament he finds himself in had he actually left the group in 62, an interesting half hour show nevertheless.

I've just watched it too. Very funny lines in places, only wish it had been longer than 30 minutes.

Woman - "I bet you could write a book!"
John - "I bet you could read one"
I think that was my favourite line.

It was ok. Some funny lines reminiscent of Lennon. I can't see me watching it again mind. An idol curiosity.

I thought it was garbage. From the script to the wig Hart was wearing. Yes it an Interesting concept with a few nice quips. I mean it was set in Birmingham, why not Liverpool. Saying that I think most of Playhouse presents has been rubbish. Only my opinion of course.

I thought that at less than 30 minutes long (with the adverts) and clearly on a very low budget, it felt almost like a rough draft or a long trailer. Had it been longer and with more money behind it, it could have included more back story (and better wigs) – why was he in Birmingham anyway? What was the relationship with the people he was living with? Did he give up music completely after quitting The Beatles? As to the story, if you ignore the fact it was Lennon, it was basically a day in the life of someone with strong principles that has been sticking it to “the man” all his life but is ultimately lazy – would someone like that have amounted to much without any level of fame? Of course there was a lot more to John than that but he really was all of those things, so what if John didn't have that great rivalry with Paul, spurring him on to greater things? In this version of events, The Beatles did not achieve the same level of fame without John – yes, they were famous but considering they were on a reunion tour playing provincial theatres it seemed that they were maybe only a little more famous than the Hollies – it would have been nice if that were expanded on too. But on the whole I thought the dialogue was funny and sharply scripted and Ian Hart’s portrayal was excellent, really capturing John’s sneering wit... again! So, in my opinion, it was good but could have been a lot better
