I couldn't find out the answer to this one, so maybe one of you guys (or gals) knows the answer. Where did George come up with the name of Rocky for his strat? I always thought he named it after the song Rocky Raccoon, but George painted his strat in about May 1967 and had the name Rocky painted on the headstock. The song wasn't thought of and recorded until the next year in Aug. 1968 as Rocky Sassoon.

I'm not sure but: And I gather you can own one of your own. You used to be able to get this hendrix one for a while. Would've been nice. I don't actually own these you know!

I have searched for any reference to this and have come up blank!
Just a thought. Did Mal Evans have a nickname of Rocky by any chance? He was sent out to buy two of the same guitars. A long shot I know.
It's really odd that this has never been documented. It's well known why other guitar players named guitars e.g. BB Kings Lucille so you would think the origins of Rocky would be well known.
