Check this out. The Beatles performing Roy Orbisons Dream Baby live in Manchester March 1962 on the BBC's Teenagers Turn. This was recorded off the radio and is the only known recording of the song. It comes in at 35.30mins. The link will say 'Open House' but the presenter of that show was ill and didn't turn up so the first part of Spencer Leigh's new three part series call 'From Mathew street to Abbey Road' was repeated. It will be gone by Thursday night so have a listen and let me know what you think. The whole show is excellent. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00sysdr/Open_House_15_06_2012/

Very interesting - thanks for sharing. I'll have to check to see if this is the same version I have on bootleg.
I didn't know about that series - must try and get hold of it then!

It's to be found on BBC Upgraded vol. 1 and on Artifacts II Youngblood. Does it say on these albums that it's a recording from the radio broadcast?

I had a listen to the version I have and it is the 07/03/1962 Teenager's Turn version - the same one as in Spencer Leigh's show .

If it was the only recording of this song by the Beatles i guess it would have to be the same one. A little history of this recording is quite interesting. Brian sent in an application for the Beatles to audition for this show in Feb. '62 and the application for the audition was approved, so the Beatles auditioned before Peter Pilbeam. Paul sang two songs and John sang two. On the back of the application Pilbeam wrote Paul NO John YES. lol Beatles YES and they were booked for their first radio appearance on March 7th. The Beatles appeared for the first time in their suits and sang 3 songs Dream Baby, Memphis and Please Mr. Postman. The song Dream Baby was broadcast the next day on Teenager's Turn Here We Go.

I'm not sure, but I think I have a cassette of a Get Back Sessions boot with them playing "Dream Baby". I'll have to dig it out!
