Hello fellow Beatles fanatics...
My name is Matt Montelione and I just wanted to let you all know that my folk-rock band called The Oakenblues based in Brooklyn is currently releasing a 14 song Beatles cover album entitled The Beatles Sessions.
The Oakenblues are Beatle nuts. We're all 24 years old and our we grew up with our parents playing Beatles records...we've been hooked since. During the summer of 2011 myself and bandmate Jimmy Jenkins decided to record a 14 song cover album in tribute to The Beatles. Fourteen being the usual number of tracks on a Fab Four record, it seemed the natural number.
We both chose 7 songs respectively, I chose (with the exception of "I Me Mine") from the early-middle period (1963-1965) and Jimmy chose mostly from the late period (1968-1969). The result is a currently ongoing collection of covers showcasing me and Jimmy's personal favorite songs from the Fab Four. Aided by drummer Don Pearsall and (on some songs) French horn player Alex Wilhelm, The Oakenblues have recorded an album that pays direct homage to The Beatles, keeping the integrity of the original Beatles recordings while adding their own distinctive flair to the songs.
We're currently releasing each song individually (but in the end will be as a set) through our SoundCloud website (http://soundcloud.com/theoakenblues) and each song is available for (obviously) FREE download! The first song we've just released is from 1963's "With the Beatles" - Lennon's classy "All I've Got To Do". The direct link to the song is soundcloud.com/theoakenblues/all-ive-got-to-do
Here's the track-list:
1) All I've Got To Do ("With the Beatles")
2) I'll Be Back ("A Hard Day's Night")
3) It's Only Love ("Help!")
4) Run For Your Life ("Rubber Soul")
5) Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) ("Rubber Soul")
6) Girl ("Rubber Soul")
7) Dear Prudence ("The Beatles")
8) Mother Nature's Son ("The Beatles")
9) I Will ("The Beatles")
10) Julia ("The Beatles")
11) Across The Universe ("Let It Be")
12) Two Of Us ("Let It Be")
13) Oh! Darling ("Abbey Road")
14) I Me Mine ("Let It Be")
We sincerely hope that you enjoy this re-imagining of these classic Beatles numbers - songs that have remained just as relevant and inspirational in 2012 as they did in the 60s when they were created. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr certainly changed the world with their music, and what manifested through them is, without a doubt, timeless.
Thanks so much for checking us out - let us know what you think, please!
Sincerely,
Matt
