Does anyone know where John's '62 Sonic Blue stratocaster is today? He received it in Feb. '65 along with George's Rocky strat. The last time I could find that John used it was during the Sgt. Pepper lp recordings. And does anyone know if there is a list available of the guitars that Yoko has of John's? I know she has the 3 Rick's and Ringo has the loaned one that John used. Thanks in advance.

That's a good question. Nobody seems to know where that strat is. OK. A reward to who ever finds John's strat. The reward? The satisfaction of knowing that you found John's strat. Goodnight to you all and God blesses!

Well while you're at it look for his original Club40, last seen in 1960 and George's Country Gent that he gave to a member of The Fourmost, who traded (imagine that) it for another guitar!

That is hilarious. You want to find the guitars that nobody could possibly know the whereabouts! Somebody said that 'swapping' and trading guitars was a common thing in those days (late '50s to 1960) So after John got his Ricky, that Hofner could have gone through dozens of owners and there's no way to identify it. And the Country Gent? In 1966, how could any one loose track of a Beatles guitar at that point? Same with the Strat. Just nuts!

I believe those guitars are still around. but people don't know what they have. I was almost tempted to write Yoko a letter one time asking her if she has that strat, but she probably wouldn't know what I was talking about. lol

And before I leave here's another oneI've been trying to find the whereabouts of. John's red strat with the rosewood neck. There's a great pic of John with it sitting in bed taken by Annie Leibovitz. The pic is in the booklet that came with the John Lennon Collection CD.

Or, as it was in my day, the 12"x12" picture on the inner sleeve. That one's gotta be at the Dakota.

Yeah I believe so too. When Sean did his little interveiw article for Guitar Aficionado magazine they asked him if he had any of his Dad's guitars and he said his MoM (Yoko) wouldn't let him have any. lol Which I thought was hilarious! Didn't Cyn have John's original Ric for awhile and then John sent May Pang over to England to retrive it? And Julian I think has one of John's acoustic's. He also has a Club 40 that John bought him for his birthday, but it isn't John's Hamburg one. I was always amazed that not more of their gear wasn't stolen. I think George only lost that one guitar at the S.F. concert. Gotta give Mal alot of credit there.

Oh come on! let the boy use one of dad's guitars. They're not magical talismans. If they were, whoever has the sonic blue would be curing cancer. Incidentally, I've found that most major older bands, in all the books I've read, have had at least one truck load of equipment stolen in their early career, let alone one guitar. But I have to guess that who ever has Paul's '61 Hofner, has to know what they've got but they can't share it with anybody. Bloody swine!

I'll have to look that one up mrmustard. Remember the time, way back in their early days, when they were on their way to a concert and George's guitar fell off the top of the van they were using and when they went to get it the car behind them ran it over. I was always surprised in their Hamburg days that John never lost that Ric of his with all that riftraft in those bars. BTW as you see I'm a newbie here and it's really been nice talkin' to people that have the same interests as me.

You are correct mrmustard. It was lost at the '63 London Christmas show. But it was actually George's. John and George traded each other their J-160's which probably led to Mal being confused. BTW George's family still has the guitar that was registered to John.

While in Hamburg there was a fender strat that John really wanted but he never had the money to buy it. Rory Storm, also there at the time, was a particularly good money saver and agreed to buy John the Strat. Rory's band weren't too happy when they heard and convinced Rory to buy the Strat for the Hurricaines instead. John was not best pleased. Not sure why I told you that story but welcome to the forum anyway!

All those stories are neat to hear! How 'bout the one where George heard there was a strat for sale and he was going to go and buy it in the morning and here someone else got up earlier than him and snagged it! George said that haunted him for years.

As for Paul's original bass, taken right out of the Abbey Road studio cabinet! An inside job? Ah does anyone know where Yoko was on that day? I just didn't think there were that many Beatle guitars lost until I started reading and listing them! Mal you're FIRED! (Donald Trump speaking).

The pics are great Amadeus! Keep 'em comin'! I'd post a pic of my Lennon strat replica I built, but I'm computor handicapped. Which is a nice way of saying I'm too damn stupid to figure out how to post the pic on here. lol BTW Led Zepplin lost all their stuff too one time.

Oh before I forget again, I wanted to know if anyone knows where I can get a copy of the film they made about John's banjo? I believe the title of the film was 'Julia's Banjo'. All I ever seen was a two min. trailer for it. And as always thank you in advance.

Here's a nice background story on the inspiration behind the film. It sounds fascinating. I'm going to rove about and try to find the whole film. I'm only a casual fan. Honestly. www.pulse-records.co.uk/whatsnew.asp?id=1By the way, to post a picture, you have to write your comment, by clicking the 'reply' button in the bottom corner of the last post, and there's a little square in that collection of squares above the smilies, that is "image". click on that, go to the online site where you supposedly uploaded your photos, drag the url to the comment box and stick it in between the "image"s and voila. I get to see your 'john' strat! something like that.

The problem I'm having is 'drag the url to the comment box' how do I do that? I don't see no url number with the pic. It's on Flickr.
