Yeah, I was very impressed too! I wish they'd given AHDN the same lavish treatment!

I suppose they might re-issue it sometime. I'm sure they're thinking about doing Yellow Submarine, I think it's been deleted.
My Help! arrived today. Not the deluxe version, I don't think it's worth the money.

I must admit it was quite expensive.

What? It's not included? I'm sure it says on the official website that it is.

Nope!!
On the DVD and in the book under the contents of the bonus disc it rather cryptically says "A Missing Scene" and it is just that - MISSING! There isn't a bonus scene on EITHER disc.
It is a great package but I feel conned because all the marketing I've read implies that the "Sam Ahab" scene is included. I never thought I'd be saying this about a Beatle product but what a rip off!!!

When I see things like this I get that sinking feeling about the remastered back catalogue. When/if!?? You just know you're not going to get a 'great' deal.
There must be other scenes in Help! that weren't used? Every bloody movie includes deleted scenes. I bought The Football Factory, and there were 8 deleted scenes, and a 30 minute documentary on the making of the film. All for £7!!

I know what you mean. Why don't they ever consult real fans about these things?

They don't seem to do their research very well. But then again, it's only people like us, on forums (the fanatics) that are going to be disappointed. And they know it. 95% of buyers are going to be very happy with it. So why do extra work just to please the 5%? This is why we'll never get what we want with the remasters. It would be great if they did something along the lines of what Purple Chick have done with their 'Deluxe' series. But most of the buying public don't give a toss about outtakes, and alternate versions. And most are happy with a crappy jewel case.
The one good thing about Help! that I can say so far, is that at least it didn't come in one of those shitty cheap plastic DVD cases!!

Another thing is that the box set could have been much cheapier if they had made just a single dvd. I mean, all the material that is now spread over two dvd's could easily have fitted onto a single dvd.

From USA Today:
The DVD includes a featurette on a deleted scene, which had The Beatles visiting a crooked acting teacher, played by British comic actor Frankie Howerd.
"They disliked each other's way of working," Lester says. "The Beatles were very relaxed, and he was a rather nervous perfectionist. Their tempos didn't work, and we knew, right from the time we shot it, that it was a non-starter. We didn't even try to edit it together."
As for outtakes, alas, there are none. "UA had a policy — everything got destroyed a year and a day after delivery of the negative."

On the other hand, a message by djinn from March 6 this year: I have the Full Help out takes & fully restored Help on dvd with Chapters & munes! I also have about 4 or 5 differant covers for it! It's nice to have it off the 35mill print! So, you'll never know!

Is that Auntie Djinn? Can we get hold of this guy? I'd love to see those outtakes.

I agree with Blue Meanie. The box set was too expensive.I'm quite happy with my two DVDs. I think the film is well restored.Better than A Hard Day's Night for the image and the sound. But the bonus stuff is not overwhelming and there's not a lot of it. I too was disappointed that we didn't get the extra scene. If the film's destroyed OK.But somehow I think in a few years time it'll turn up somewhere. Just a few things of interest.Sam Ahab is Bahamas backwards, for example.never noticed that before. And Martin Scorsese's appreciation of Dick Lester is interesting too. But nevertheless I'm really pleased to have the actual film in such good quality.

I wish Victor Spinetti was given more time on the bonus disc, like John Lennon said: "I could listen to him for hours".
