oh, the clothes; oh, the fashion!!! This comment just about sums you up Ranger i.e. you totally miss the point.

Ooooh!!! I pick Helen Shapiro! And Herman's Hermits.
It's all about what you like. Me, I like the long drawn out epic type thing (minus the dubious clothing). My favorite group is The Beatles but my favorite music is prog.
If you like quick snappy 45's, then Tales From Topographic Oceans, or Quadrophenia for that matter, are probably not for you. That's fine.
But I do agree with the bad clothing as regards the WHO in the '70s. But I like the boiler suit in '69-70.

The boiler suit was genius! In fact that boiler suit was the catalyst for their change in musical direction. Obviously!
Wasn't there a band later on were all the members wore white boiler suits on stage? Kraftwork possibly? Or was that just a bad dream I had!
Anyway, the point is that clothes do not make the music and music isn't about clothes. It's incidental and irrelevant in my view.

1978 ? or 1963. Not to difficult Mr Kite, I was going to ask if you were single and available would you 'go there' today given the chance. However then I realised you are probably a similar age to Stevie so that would be a YES!

I didn't know The Who were a mod band when I discovered that I loved them. I don't even know if mod ever meant anything here in the US. Pete's boiler suit was cool. And I got a kick out of John's skeleton suit at Isle Of Wight. Somewhere (maybe on the "Thirty Years Of Maximum R & B Live" DVD?) I heard John say that the suit was so tight that he couldn't sit down! The Who could have dressed up as ducks and I'd still love them. (Quackophenia?)

I fancy Shapiro more, funnily enough, and she's definitely aged better than wotsit.
mrkite I'm so pleased that you can derive so much satisfaction from missing the greatest era to be young. Jolly well done. Hey! You even missed England winning the World Cup! Great timing! Keep enjoying.....erm.....1978, it's truly fab.....and those clothes.....
(Quick point to the guy who said clothes don't matter - do you think that clothes didn't matter to The Beatles.....now 'that' is naive.)

Ha ha! You're hysterical Ranger! To me the clothes are of absolutely no importance whatsoever. I mean when you are listening to the music do you really think about what they are wearing? Of course not. The clothes do not make the man. The substance is in the music. Now what's naive about that?

Wotsit !!! Check out how many albums wotsit sold in the 70`s Missing the 60`s was a bit of a downer ( I was there , just a wee lad ) Missing England wining the World Cup was not on my top ten list of "Things I missed in the 60`s list " Watching Georgie run round half of the Benfica defence to tap in a glorious goal on that glourious night , now that doe`s bring a tear to my eye . As for 78 . I left school got a job , joined a band (we were crap ) and saw Rush for the first time . Oh , and 12 months away from seeing Wings (both nights) and of course The Who , Status Quo , Whitesnake , Thin Lizzy , Uriah Heep , Nazereth, Rush again , Ian Gillian , Supported by Spirit , Motorhead, Queen ,Robin Trower. Not bad for a dull decade. As for clouths , I had the denim jacket jeans T. Shirt ( always Rush ) and the hair . Man ! So then how old are you ? by the way .

A dreadfully dull decade, and a rival for anything since. Manchester United fan as well, eh, never would have guessed. Can't wait, I'm off to laugh at Wayne Rooney.
(And to the other guy - clothes are EVERYTHING in rock 'n' roll - one of the principal reasons for Bill Haley's quick demise was how he looked......exactly what about that don't you understand?)

I fail to understand you but then I guess you get that a lot. Just because you don't agree doesn't make someone else's opinion wrong. Again you totally miss the point.

Alright Other Guy (A.K.A Mr Musty , Neil Young, Si ) I think Ranger has the Roscoe syndrome . But without the Latin thrown in . If I turn up at The Who in June with a Zoot Suite white jacket , with me trousers 5 inchs long , I`d look a right Twat. Oh The Who have added 2 more dates . Not bad for a Raawwk album . Are you a Rangers fan ranger ? (If yes please read on )( or Scotish) If not ignore my witty Football banter Man Utd , of course . Could be worse I could support a Scottish third division team that palys in front of a few hundred and will one day finally craw back to the top league and compete against the other club that also has no hope in hell of ever wining the European Cup . Laugh all you want at Rooney , but as your National team and of course England ( which are not a team I`ve ever seen or supported as they have a nasty habit of plagueing my beloved team with injuries and I will not even bother getting into the F.A.) Will never , ever win the World Cup . Yes , I`m from Manchester and not a glory hunter as my first season following Utd was in 74/ 75 Season which was when they were in the 2nd division . Which you will be watching a lot of next season . Enjoy .

This is why I wore Flares . Not tight . No outline . Not clear.

Incidentally, here's one of Pete's guitars from the 70's. I couldn't help but notice that some important bits are missing. By the way, a lot of '70's clothes, I found embarassing. Just couldn't bring myself to do the flares or ''bell bottoms'' thing. That being said, I also couldn't bring myself to do the ''Flock Of Seagulls'' hair in the '80's either.

Saw The Who last night . Brilliant . What can I say but now I have seen the greatest rock album ever made. Live . But of a shocker that Zak was`nt playing . It was also a great pleasure to have a Pint with Mr Mustard and my first meeting in the flesh with The Sun King .

It was amazing wasn't it! Roger was in great voice (I still don't understand why he insists on playing acoustic guitar on Who Are You!!). Although I was expecting Zak too, I thought that guy was well up to the job. I like the way they had real brass rather than some crap synth simulation. 5.15 was incredible, as was Sea And The Sand, I'm One, Dr Jimmy. Loved it all.
Great to see you again Mr Kite. And meet your mate with the wrong T-shirt on! Let me know about Neil Young.

Yes MrKite it was great to finally meet you & your pal. Glad you enjoyed it. It was great you came to our fare City to see the Who. First visit to our Arena too . You have to admit its a lovely setting ,sittiing on the banks of the Mersey. The Who was fab & in top form .Drummer was great. Where was Zak does anybody know. The whole band Exelled. Great contribution from Simon Towshend. The stage looked magnificent . The crowd were up for it .A truly wonderful gig. The downside was the Hangover from Hell the next day. Do t know how I made it into work.
