I know of the famous book that came out that tracked the Beatles studio time, number of takes, etc. (forget it's name) Has there ever been any account of song revisions / work. Like the story of Hard Day's Night being written over night. Are we left with only the interview clips to rely on as far as who wrote what - which part came first, etc. I love the tale of Wanna Hold Your hand, where john talks about Paul hitting the Em chord and then he knew they had a hit. (Sorry if I even have that wrong - I mean the one they wrote on the Asher's piano) I want to read as much of that stuff as I can. I know they would tear them out pretty quickly - but I suppose it's all been lost to time - or never kept record of?

"Revolution In The Head" by Ian MacDonald, although riddled with quite a few errors, conjecture and inaccuracies, does detail the song writing process of quite a few of their songs. I don't know of any books that specifically recount how the Lennon/McCartney songs were written but I think George Harrison's "I Me Mine" explains a lot about his songs.
Oh, and I think the book to which you were referring was "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions" by Mark Lewisohn.

Yes, thank you, my friend just refered to it as the "Lewison book" I believe, but that must be it.
And I will check out Rev in the hed book....sounds like I'll never get the full answer on most of them, but thats a good start - Preeshers.
In a whispered David Attenborough voice: "So elusive is the Liverpudlian Beatle..."

I've not seen that one before - do you know if it's any good?
There was also A Hard Day's Write too - but that mainly focused on the stories behind the songs.

Yes, I've got it. It's excellent. Very in-depth look at the structure of the songs, chord sequences harmonies etc. It probably helps if the reader has a little bit of knowledge about music theory but it's certainly not essential.
