Hi -
As a former vinyl audiophile with an all-tube stereo, I am a little thrown as I realize how little I understand about the differences in various incarnations of digital technology!
I accept CDs for what they are. I did greatly appreciate the audio advances the 2009 Beatle remastered represented. I will buy Band on the Run on CD and not on vinyl (my Thorens turntable skips like crazy in my car!)
Since various purchase options seem to offer at least two different "bonus" digital download options, I hope digitally savvy people can help me understand what those difference are and offer an opinion as to how much of a difference I would hear on a high resolution stereo.
(A) Do I have this right, that there are two digital download options, Option One is High Quality MP3 Files (320Kbps, fully tagged, will play on any MP3 player)
So, this will transfer to my iPod so I can play it through my stereo's pre-amp; will I notice an improvement over the official re-mastered CD? Or is this just better than regular MP3 quality, but not as good as the official CD?
(B) There seems to be a second "high resolution" download option described as 24bit 96kHz limited and unlimited. If I read it right this cannot be play in iTunes without being converted. Will this sound better than the official remastered CD?
If so, any guesstimation as to how noticable that would be?
I assume going to the trouble to convert this higher quality download into iTunes format kills it's sonic advantages. So I assume I will have to rig up some long length cables from my computer to my stereo's pre-amp (and hope it doesn't suffer line loss) if I want to hear this better download through my stereo
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me as I gingerly stumble the analog era into the very mixed blessings of multiple formats digital options!
Andrew
