Wow ! Floyd and Zappa Actuel Festival, Mont de lnclus, Amougies, Belgium.Oct .1969 they seem to be playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order haha . They barely touched on the best bit of the tune , the guitar riff intro and outro. Love the footage of the people raving/dancing near the end , these scenes are reminiscent of my times at the rave scene back in the nineties and the end of the night which usually meant first thing in the morning. No we never took sleeping bags to raves , we were not lightweights ha ha , it was not unknown for us to go on to a morning club , which may have had something to do with the artificial stimulants we have taken through the night.

It`s strange how back then that the young people who went to those Gigs would all end up with respectable jobs ( Tony Blair etc ) I spent most of my late teens going to Rock gigs , Festivals and Rock Disco`s which would be 90% of Students from middle class back grounds living it up Today`s generation of Rock gig goers are now people in their late 40`s and onwards some dragging their kids along I guess it`s like my parents dragging me along to end of the pier shows at Blackpool Funny how times change and then again stay the same This features the Clown outside Blackpool fun house .

When I was younger I thought of prog as music that uni types enjoyed. All the kids who were older or my age liked glam or denim rock bands. All the lads I knew at school liked Quo, Rainbow, AcDc and Meatloaf. Punk had their followers, with others kids likening Ska and bands like The Jam. No one admitted to likening prog. I could never work out if it was a class or age thing. No one would dare mention Zep or Floyd. YOur taste in music defined you at school.

YOur taste in music defined you at school. when i was about 13 or 14 i was into T.Rex and Sweet whilst other were into the more manly band Slade, you had to keep fairly quiet about liking Sweet and T.Rex as they were seen to be quite effeminate. I like Slade too but never had any of their records. It was usually brainy kids that liked Yes and Genesis, i couldn't understand that music. As i grew a little older i got into the Faces, then punk came along and instantly made prog look so out of date and overblown as people went over to punk which was a return to basic Rock'n'Roll. As for the crowds at festivals , i think you have to be fairly wealthy and middle class to attend these things. Yes Glastonbury has probably always had an eco hippy feel about it but i for one am a bit fed up with it becoming more and more political instead of just concentrating on peace and love and the music . It's too late for me to attend these things now as i have little interest in today's music. Like radio one , Glastonbury was way behind the times before Steve Hillage introduced the dance tent where stupidly i'd probably have spent all my time in had i went in the mid nineties.

Mr Kite, I don't think you could ever categorize T Rex as 'progressive' although I know where you're coming from. Glam Rock with a heavy edge? So then people (and you Mr Kite!), how would you pigeonhole these guys? It's refreshing to see them like this in a studio environment, although not singing live, rather than their glammed up stage act. I actually like this

Prog eh ! That`s a great shout for Sweets Oxyegen
But I`m an oldie and I remember Sweet when they were in full flow in the 70`s I was`nt a fan and I would never think "Prog" But then again where can you draw the line with Prog
This band is a Pop group , but they do really ooze Prog
Prog ? !
Such a glorious tune and it`s , dare I say it up there with a Lennon McCartney Talking of 10cc There is an Exhibition at the Stockport Museum And all being well I`m going this weekend !

Just prior to forming 10CC the four of them did the backing for Ramases's 'Space Hymns' album in 1971. Ramases aka Kimberley Barrington Frost chose well with his backing musicians and Roger Dean who also did Yes's album covers made a brilliant job on this album which is a six fold out cover. A great prog album which I remember my brother buying at the time.

I actually like this cracking clip, and Steve Priest doesn't look as effeminate as he usually does, perhaos it was all an act. I have to say i loved all of Sweets Chin and Chapman releases, Little Willy Poppa Joe to the more heavy Teenage Rampage and Hellraiser, wasn't a fan of their only as far as i know, Love is like Oxygen . People were surprised that their b-sides were metal or heavy.

There are obvious flaws in that article. By listing the obvious bands they miss out on the different threads of prog;
Pop prog : Kate Bush, 10cc Folk prog : Caravan, Soft Machine. Psych Prog : King Crimson, Early Pink Floyd. Jazz Prog : Frank Zappa.
Then you have the non Anglo contingent (in a traditional sense).
Can, Gong, Aphrodite's Child.
Then you get possible the controversial aspect but acts who did have prog aspects. Parliament/Funkadelic, Earth Wind and Fire, Hendrix and Prince. used prog RnB and Funk but used sci fi and wild ideas so they could fit in.
Yes punk happened but it was also representing a new generational leaning, oddly The Damned were a pure 50's rnr band IMHO and was as much about taking the musi out of the hand of the establishment as much as hating prog. Apparently Rat Scabies got on very well with Bonzo from Zep.
Punk itself was usurped to some extent by Ska and the new romantic movement but all grew up together.
