Wow, a really tough choice, but I went with "Rubber Soul". While there's no denying the greatness of "Revolver", for me RS was the one because it's the last album where the four really played together. "Revolver" is where they started to splinter and find their individual voices. "Elenor Rigby" is pretty much all Paul, "Love You To" is all George, "For No One" is just Paul and Ringo (plus horn) etc. "Rubber Soul" is the last time where, for an entire album, they played as a real band. Well, until "Let It Be" anyway. And on RS they sound like they're still enjoying it.

As alaskan posted a year ago, I first heard those songs spread out over three albums. So the question has to be qualified: Original UK Parlophone releases, or US Capitol?
If it's US Capitol, Rubber Soul is better. If it's UK Parlophone, Revolver is my choice.

Well I`m shocked you asked that Al ! Its Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band In my opinion . Of course And Mr Wiki says . The album was a commercial success, spending a total of 27 weeks at the top of the UK Album Chart and 15 weeks at number one in the American Billboard 200. It was critically acclaimed upon release and won four Grammy awards in 1968. Sgt. Pepper frequently ranks at or near the top of published lists of the greatest albums of all time, including the top of Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

I have to go with Revolver because I think it's a lot more consistent and I think the songs are a bit more imaginative.
That's not to say Rubber Soul doesn't have a bunch of awesome songs (because it does) but it also has a couple that I consider clunkers (here's looking at you "Run For Your Life" & "What Goes On")

After much thought and seeking legal advice on the matter it has been decided that Revolver has to be the winner !!! Please note that No Forum Members where harmed during this discussion... However Arthurlee did receive a black eye , Hey Bulldog had a cut lip , Nowhere Man needed his nose reset in three places , Sprucy in the Sky received two nasty carpet burns and The End got a custodial sentence of 18 months at Her Majs pleasure but was released after 48 hours and deported back to Libya....

I'd definitely have to go with Revolver. It's one of their greatest albums, in my opinion. With great songwriting from Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison, as well as experimenting in the studio such as using backwards guitar on "I'm Only Sleeping," this album really showed the world that the Beatles weren't just fun and games anymore. Although Rubber Soul was the real "turning point" for the Beatles as musicians, Revolver was the one that really put the icing on the cake. Some great songs include Lennon's "I'm Only Sleeping" and "Tomorrow Never Knows," McCartney's "Here, There and Everywhere" and "For No One," and Harrison's "Taxman." Overall, this album just seems to win it for me.

Definitely Rubber Soul
I rather see Revolver as a transitory album, leading ultimately to Sergeant Pepper’s… and Rubber Soul as the top achievement of that time when the Beatles were touring intensively, and scrambled to do albums as quickly as possible.
Musically speaking, I see Revolver having more in common with Sergeant Pepper’s, whereas I see Rubber Soul is in a class of its own, pretty much intemporal. For instance, Eleanor Rigby, can easily be related to She’s Leaving Home; Love you to to Within You Without You; and so on.
In other words, I see Revolver as a practice field of sorts, leading to Sergeant Pepper’s.

I do love both albums, but I have to say Rubber Soul is better in my opinion. It's more laid back, and smooth sounding. And I REALLY love the song Norwegian Wood. So hands down, Rubber Soul.

I find Revolver an unsettling album to listen to. While there are weak tracks on Rubber Soul, such as Think For Yourself, The Word and Girl, the album as a whole is a much more enjoyable listen.
