Hi there, I'm just new here There's always been a question I had to ask about a version of "P.S. I love you" which I have. I can't find anything about it on the internet, so maybe there's someone who could help me out what version this is or which take it is etc It is stereo, but unlike the other version this one features more singing by Paul (and John). Here's the link where you can download the song: rapidshare.com/files/364972872/12_-_P.S._I_Love_You.mp3Cheers & many thanks! P.S. I tagged it incorrect (This is not the real "Love Songs" version)...

It's an outfake. There is no true stereo version of this song and "Love Me Do" avaialble. The only one's available are duophonic stereo versions available on the original PLEASE PLEASE ME album. The new stereo remasters only use the MONO versions! Hope this helps! Regards, Beatle Bob

Ok that helps indeed! But what exactly do you mean with an outfake? It really looks like if Paul, John & George are singing along

It has been assembled using different parts of the song which have then been mixed together, for example, verse 1 is mixed with verse 2 (i.e. verse 1 is played at the same time as verse 2) etc etc. It sounds stereo because when the two verses are fused, one verse is panned left and the other panned right. It only works because the lyrics are the same - it's a clever idea. The same could be done with Love Me Do of course. Thanks for sharing

Yes, that makes sense indeed! I never thought about that haha, but I tried to make the same version and it almost worked (Although it's not that easy, because they were going a bit slower towards the end. That's also a reason for that echo) Anyway thank you very much And does someone know what actually happened with those master tapes of "Love me do" and "P.S. I Love you"?

No problem The master tapes were quite possibly wiped, would you believe! However, with She Loves You (which is also only available in mono) I think that master tape may either have been lost when they added German vocals to it in France or maybe it's still sitting in the EMI Marconi studio somewhere! Oh yeah, it's my opinion that the backing track used for the German version of She Loves You was not recorded in Paris. I think there's a post all about that on the forum somewhere. I'll try and find it, it's a very interesting theory!

Notice that it's the singles released before the LP that are not available in stereo - maybe EMI thought they wouldn't be popular enough to warrant recording an LP!! Crazy huh!

yeah definitly. it's one of my favorite songs by them. it's a shame. I wish the Decca Audition was done in stages instead of played live as i prefer The decca version of "til there was you"
