That will be interesting to read. Zipp, what are the main innaccuracies according to Krasker? Assuming, of course, his version of events are correct.

Eric Krasker has pointed out some discrepencies regarding what was played and in what order at the Star Club in December 1962.
Also, I think it has since been proven that Swanee River is not a Beatle track - a free EP of it was given away with initial copies of Gottfridsson's book.

Yes that' the gist of it.
Gottfridsson maintains there were four sets but Krasker can only see three. Or more like two and a half! But the main thing is that Mr. K. always goes to great pains to explain his arguments and sources whereas Mr. G. tends to conjure up tracks that probably don't exist to try to substantiate his theories.
Mr.K. does also explain why Swanee River can't possibly have the Beatles playing on it and wonders out loud why Mr.G. put it on the CD accompanying his book.
The main thrust of the book is about Hamburg with the two big chapters on Tony Sheridan and the Star Club tapes. But there are also interesting chapters on Stuart Sutcliffe's death, the Raymond Jones mystery and the sacking of Pete Best.

Ok, you've convinced me. I bought a duffer! Gottfridsson's book is still VERY good, but it just contains a few disputable facts.

My favorite book would be "The Last Days of John Lennon" , written by Frederic Seaman, personal assistant at the Dakota until 1981. Yoko sued him after the book came out. I bought the book (used) at an outdoor market a long time ago, and I've never seen another copy of it anywhere!

It may be a good book but I personally wouldn't touch anything Fred Seaman has had a hand in. I would certainly question the source material from which his book is based, considering as a former personal assistant (1979-1981), he was later convicted of stealing boxes and boxes of Lennon's personal possessions including letters (which he sold), journals, photos and unreleased recordings after John was murdered. According to Yoko, only some of it was returned, contrary to the ruling of the court.
In addition, he personally helped the well-known scum of an author Albert Goldman with his Lives of John Lennon book.

I have all those books except A Hard Days Write which I've read mixed reviews on it. Being the completist I am I should get. I have, probably, in the region of 100 Beatles books that I need to get around to cataloging one day.
I like I Me Mine. I don't own the one released in the 70's that was a good few hundred quid. It's a much later edition that was probably from Asda. I do like George talking about how he wrote his songs and then the lyrics are printed on the next page.

I've not read Patti Boyd's book - is it worth getting? I must admit, I do normally steer clear of the WAG books! LOL! Having said that, I did quite enjoy A Twist of Lennon by Cynthia Lennon (or "Twist" as she was then). I actually liked A Hard Day's Write - some of the lyrical interpretations were a tad flimsy but overall was very good. Also, was the first book I'd seen that had Julian Lennon's original Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds painting in it that John took inspiration from for his song (which is a huge bone of contention now of course!). I don't think I have I Me Mine... I'll have to check my bookshelves! LOL! I've got Beatle books literally everywhere - including boxes and boxes full in my Mum's loft!!!

I'm not bragging about my extensive library. I have a bit of dross in there as well. As Mark Lewisohn has been saying recently, most Beatle books are re-hashes of already written books. More worryingly the Liverpool and Hamburg stories have been based on Allan Williams' s The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away. No wonder its a grey area of Beatle history!

Totally agree - I've kept the dross ones at my Mums but I've built up a few more over the years which I also need to file away! I know it's not historically accurate but The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away is a proper good read! It got handed round all the lads at school when I was about 10!! LOL

I did my back in at the begining of the year and I could`nt move . So I read a book . A Beatle related book !
Fab . Intimate life of Paul McCartney by Howard Souness .
I really did enjoy it as it must have been the first book I`ve read Beatle wise that went into detail of Macca`solo years . So I do reconmmend it.

I have most of the books mentioned so far. So I'll pick one that I thought was pretty good that hasn't been mentioned yet and that is Brian Epstein's "Celler Full of Noise." It's also pretty hard to find now and it will cost you a pretty penny.

I love pattie's book, but i cant speak for others, i havent read any wag books, but i dont think this is like that! Id say its worth a read i got cynthia's book 'john' as well. In cyn's book, she talks about how her and pattie became close friends, but then in pattie's book she says she found cynthia the most difficult beatle wife or gf to get on with! I also have revoloution in the head but i havent read it :/
