This was always my favorite recording of the song by them. LIVE from about ten years ago... (I love they keep the crowd waiting for over two minutes for the song. )

After thinking about this for some hours, I am now of the opinion that Running Up That Hill is possibly Kate Bush's most important track for the following reason. It was released after the misfire of The Dreaming LP and she had gone quiet for a few years. After that first run of success the lost years really could have left her in the wilderness. However I remember hearing the track (and buying the single) and it was just epic and one hell of a return to for. The entire Hounds of Love LP is a masterpiece and Kate was back with a vengence. I am thrilled the new generation of music lovers have found her and her work. They are in for a treat.
My top ten Kate tracks are.
1 * Moments of Pleasure 2 * Running Up That Hill 3 * The Man With the Child in Eyes (written when she was 13 years old) 4 * King of the Mountain 5 * Nocturne 6 * Babooshka 7 * Wuthering Heights 8 * Hammer Horror 9 * Sat in Your Lap 10 * This Woman's Work
And there were so many more I could have chosen.

Totally agree with you Pothos ! Hounds Of Love is probably to this day her most commercial just for Side 1 alone . Here my latest Kate top 10 . 1. The Man With The Child In His Eyes 2. The Kick Inside 3. This Woman`s Work 4. Moments Of Pleasure 5. Nocturne 6. A Coral Room 7. Old England My Lionheart 8. All The Love 9. The Sensual World 10. Feel It . A shout out to the masterpiece that is The Ninth Wave and the beautiful Passing Through Air which is the only Kate Demo to be released officially

I am pleased to report that Kate Bush is Number 1 in the UK with Running Up that Hill. A whole 37 years after it was released and originally getting to Number 3. (I bought it at the time and still have it), thank's to the appearance on Stranger Things.
Running Up That Hill is the most important track of her career IMHO. Firstly it revived her career after the misfire of The Dreaming and now it has brought her to a whole new audience. I am jealous of all the teenagers who have her whole catalogue to go through.

Been thinking about the misfire that was The Dreaming Lp. Looking back and it is 40 + years I hope my memories are valid but I cannot recall a eset of circumstances affecting and Lp release like this. I recall that Kate had had three massive LP's many singles and a tour and was an established artist although she was still very young.
So she was working on LP number 4. If my memory is correct she was building a home studio and had recently pruchased a fairlight synth so the recording persiod was taking along time. EMI decided to release Sat In Your Lap which charted at no 11. This is where things get weird. Kate is still recording so why the single was released with no Lp ready was odd, a year later the LP is ready and the next single The Dreaming is released. It is Kate at her most sureal and I love the track but and this is where my memory is vaugue did the Dreaming get no daytime airplay as it was so ahead of its time. I only recall hearing it on David Jensens evening show so she had not chance of it charting (it made no 48) that and the mixed reviews really put her on the back foot and it was 5 years before she hit the top 5 singles again with RUTH. I am thrilled she is getting major recognition again.

The 1985-2022 gap for this song as a hit reminds me of the Sixto "Sugarman" Rodriquez story, who released an LP in 1970, recorded in Detroit, that didn't go anywhere and then in South Africa in 1998 it became a hugh hit played on a little radio station there! So they wanted to bring him there for a concert and no one knew whatever happened to him!!! Which led to the fantastic underground doco/movie 'Searching For Sugarman'. btw that LP "Cold Fact' is one of the GREAT vinyl rarities of the 70's, which I had and gave it away, and today commands a high price if you can find one!
