This is incredibly rough - written and recorded today! Need to sort out a middle 8 out and fix a few crappy lyrics (especially "can't live without you now it's plain to see" and "and this pain inside just hurts me so" - yuck!!) Anyway, here it is: homepage.ntlworld.com/the.end3/Hurts.mp3

It should just load your default media player (for me it's Quicktime) but depends on your settings I guess. It's a standard mp3 though.
This might work: [music]http://www.fileupyours.com/view/262446/HurtsTooMuchToSayGoodbye.mp3[/music]

Got it!
Really good song. Some great chord changes and piano work. I think it would work well with drums and bass. A guitar solo in the middle or outro would be good. Have you got something for the middle 8 yet? I have an idea if you are interested. Let me know.

Cheers for that! I wrote this completely differently to how I usually write a song - the melody for the verse and chorus just pinged in my head whilst sitting at my desk in work - I had to dash out at lunchtime to record it into my phone so I wouldn't forget - a bit weird a guy walking down the high street singing to himself though!! So when I got home that night, I had to work out the chords to the melody - never done things that way round before so it took me ages - and the results are what you hear in the demo - 2 first-take vocals and a rough sketch of the music so I could work on it later. In the finished version, I'd like the piano in the background with an acoustic guitar more to the fore. Absolutely definitely interested in ideas for a middle 8 though as that hasn't pinged into my head yet! I see the middle 8 coming after the 2nd chorus but there is a really obvious chord I was trying to avoid to lead into it which has kinda thrown me a bit (and is the reason I've left it a week before having a re-think). Anyway, thanks for your comments - always appreciated

The second time you sing 'and try as I might I just can't get it right' it's Bflat to C, I think, then try going up to Eflat, then down to Bflat and up to C for 3 times then back into the chorus. The timing for the chord changes as below.
1 2 3 4 Eflat Bflat
1 2 3 4 C
It's a bit Bowie-ish but I think it works well. If you don't like it it's no problem.

Thanks Si, I'll give that a go and let you know how I get on - nothing wrong with "Bowie-ish" by the way!

I tried out your idea - guess what, Eflat was the chord i was trying to avoid! Nevertheless, I am going to use it cos you're right, it just fits nicely. From the Eflat it went naturally to the Bflat but I actually preferred going back to F - encourages som nice harmonies if I can do them right!! Anyway, I'll do another rough demo soon and see what you think. Thanks again - feedback always appreciated AL
