The Byrds did indeed record "This Wheel's on Fire." Not sure what album, but it was after Clarence White had joined the band and all the original members except McGuinn had left. I have a recording of it on a collection called Byrds Play Dylan. Curiously, the first 13 of the 20 cuts are in alphabetical order. www.amazon.com/Byrds-Play-Dylan/dp/B000068CYL

Hey, Brewmaster, thanks for the James Ray YouTube. Talk about a forgotten oldie! I hadn't heard that one in years. It was a great record. I remember the harmonica but had forgotten about the tuba. YouTube also led me to his other hit, "Itty Bitty Pieces."
I don't know why oldies stations don't play those two records any more. YouTube jogged my memory! I liked both of them, back in 1962.

Henry, there are indeed some really great numbers from back then; many of which have been neglected.
Another cover coupling. The original from about 1963...
... covered by numerous artists, including The "Swinging" Blue Jeans [note those unfortunate outfits]....

Dee Dee Warwick was Dionne's sister. And Whitney Houston's cousin. And now, back to your regularly-scheduled thread.

The Dakotas, a Manchester group who were teamed up with Billy J Kramer by Brian Epstein, recorded some great instrumentals; such as The Cruel Sea..
It was released in America as "The Cruel Surf"

This rather obscure number was popular with some Merseybeat groups....
I remember The Clayton Squares doing a fine version, with their double sax sound, although no recording of the number remain. The Searchers made this cover....

I remember "Gonna Send You Back to Georgia," but I didn't remember the name of the one-hit-wonder who recorded it. The Animals did a version of the song and called it "Gonna Send You Back to Walker," which was a minor hit in the US. I think it might have been a bigger hit for the Animals if they had not messed with the title and lyrics.

Henry, I'd forgotten about the Animals' version. They did some excellent covers.

covered by many, including The Kinks
It was also a staple of Doctor Feelgood. Checkout this version with an amazing solo by Wilko

Lee and Wilko falling out and Wilko leaving the band was such a shame. A great band.

I first heard this covered at the Cavern
As far as I know, none of our local groups recorded a version, but later this decent cover was released...
