Despite my delicate financial situation at present, I have been to quite a few gigs recently!
12 March I went to see The School at the Buffalow Lounge in Islington - and thoroughly enjoyed that! I posted a track of their's in the "Currently Listening To" section the other day - a track that I have not stopped playing!
15 March my cousin and I caught the Thames boat to the O2 to see Gary Numan performing his (i.e. Tubeway Army) legendary "Replicas" album - another TOP gig and a great mew venue too!
Tonight I have just returned from The Forum (formerly the Town And Country) at Kentish Town where I saw THE SONICS! This turned out to be one of THE BEST gigs I have ever been to in my entire life! We got right down the front and I was VERY surprised when some serious moshing started! Being old farts, we moved back out of the way in case our beer got spilled, but when they played "Psycho" I handed my beer to my mate and dived right in with the moshers! I'll probably be limping tomorrow but it was bloody worth it!!!

"John Power, previously of The La’s and Cast, is set to release his new solo album Stormbreaker, following the huge success of the 2005 work, Willow She Weeps. On Monday December 10th, The Charlotte in Leicester welcomed Power to the Midlands.
“Sohostrut writes "whatever happened to Cast?"
Well I am glad to have witnessed that John Power, once of Scouse-lands much-loved sons is well and truly still on the ball.
Currently on tour with his ‘Stormbreaker’ tour, Power, complete with bouncy and catchy backing band is knocking out an exuberant, move-your-feet set which will enthrall anyone into sixties rock ‘n’ roll or pop-folk.
Power includes numbers from previous album ‘Willow She Weeps’ during a night that cannot help but cheer everyone up on this cold winter tour. Leicester isn’t, and never will be, the forefront of a music scene, but fans of The La’s and Cast emerged to see a musician still very much in his prime.
The old baby-face may have made way for a rugged, worn look, and his bass player may look like some guy who’s been dragged off the street, with fisherman’s hat, Hofner bass and scally image. But the sound they create is nothing short of mesmerising.
On drums, a young chap who was perhaps not old enough to get into the gigs when The La’s or even early Cast were hitting the pubs plays simple beats when needed and flowing rhythm throughout and the on stage chemistry is electric.
The backing vocals are reminiscent of the harmonies from The La’s days whilst Power supplies the rootsy and raw feel on his acoustic, picking out powerful bass notes and driving rhythm. Sometimes enchanting, sometimes gentle, Power has a voice that is unique and memorable. But you find yourself singing these songs for days.
Highlights were ‘’Jumpin’ Bean’’ and ‘’Now That You’ve Gone’’ which were a kind reminder of how this music, when done right, can be as good as any whilst it was a fair reflection of the night when no one shouted out for performances from Powers previous two bands.
Power may always be fondly remembered as ‘Bass player from the La’s’, but without doubt Power has plenty more left in him."

Sounds right up my street actually - I'll check them out - cheers!
If you like Cast/The Las etc, you also might like The Stands (bit of a connection too - their drummer has recently been playing with John Power!).
