I have a mate who earlier this week went to a Breeders gig. After catching up with him today he mentioned that they had done a cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun. Two things happened Kim Deal apparently asked the crowd if they were Beatles fans 3 people out of the 600 present put their hands up. Yes I am shocked too. However my mate grilled me on all thing Beatles today and I think he is going to spend the weekend listening to them. I suggested Revolver, The White Album, SPLHCB and Abbey Road as a start (he was not keen of listening to the early stuff). One thing he mentioned was that he knows the singles but is shocked at how great lesser know tracks are. So possibly The Breeders have made a few Beatles converts from this tour.

I like the choices of albums you've suggested your friend listens too. I have every Beatles album of course but the first two albums were the last that i bought. For some reason i put a lower value on their poppy earlier work, however this all changed when i went to see the play(with music) of Backbeat, the drama about their Hamburg years and when Stuart Sutcliffe was the bass player. There were only two Beatles songs in the show, Ps I love you and I saw her standing there, the rest of the music in the show were the covers they did, like Roll over Beethoven, Please Mr Postman, hearing these songs live they just oozed energy and of course the first album was a reflection of their live act . So not long after the show i bought the first two albums, it may be pop/rock but was head and shoulders above anything else that was around at that time, and of course The Beatles kept up this high standard for the rest of their career.
