I think you are are right Alix, all those things are affecting convention day. However I do believe Cavern City Tours are responsible for resting on their laurels and basically just letting the day just go ahead without putting much effort in. I always thought it was much better to have bands on all day in the big Ballroom. A few years back they had a great compere, Mike Byrne, who did the whole day in the main ball room. He was a bit cheesy but much 100% better than CCT staff they have doing it now. This when convention day seemed to be at it's height.
The room off the side off the side of the big room with stalls on (the Pearce suite) could easily handle the interviews. It now just seems to serve as another merchandise room but for very expensive items such as gold records.
With a bit of effort on the part of Cavern City Tours, I do feel convention day could be a lot better than it has been for the last few years. Especially if they did another 'Albums' years.

Blimey, those are my thoughts exactly! I remember seeing some great bands in the main hall on Convention day - now the bands seem to get tucked away in that awful Compton Suite room where there is never enough room to see the really decent bands that play there!
Holdind interviews in the main hall is a waste of the available space - they used to be held in the side room, where the video romm has been for the last couple of years. It definitely needs a re-think!

To right it does. I think in your capacity as Beatle Forum administrator, Al, you should write to Bill Heckle with our concerns regarding the plight of convention day!
The opening argument should be a campaign to bring back Mike Byrne and dispense of Neil B's services as compere. There's 50% improvement for a kick off.

They moved the speakers into the ballroom as they had too many people listening to talks for the side rooms. Plus its easier for when the likes of Pete Best, Donovan and Rusty Anderson talk and then perform to keep it all in one room rather than trapsing them adn the fans thru the hotel for the better sound set up.
Also a lot of the bands used to play to a virtually dead ballroom early in the day.
They did introduce a theme to the Ballroom Stage this year (Solo Albums), the big problem they have tho is people moan if they repeat themes, they've done the Album Convention BW98 & BW00 and the Beatles Years in 2002.
At least strict themes like that cut down the repetition of songs.

Surely the Albums conventions are the ultimate that can be offered. The solo years this year was a good idea but this could have been bettered by devoting the whole day to it in the Ball room with more albums and more bands. Bob Bartey was such a let down. Ok, I know his voice had gone but it was as if he hadn't even bothered to learn Band On The Run with his band although he has played the album before in the past. And then Neil B came out with his ukelele........................... Every time they have done an albums convention it's always been well attended right from the beginning of the day. Someone should do a set of all the Beatles singles (UK releases obviously) including B sides. Now that would be great to see.

I think this is an off topic message, but here you are: is there any possibility to Paul and/or Ringo be in Beatle Week 2009? Best wishes,
Marcos.

Hi Marcos,
in the 27 years Beatleweek/Beatles convention has been going neither Paul, George or Ringo have attended so I think it's highly unlikely Paul or Ringo ever will.

The closest the Convention ever came to even being officially recognised by The Beatles was, I believe, when they premiered the restored version of Yellow Submarine there some years back - still, no Beatle attended then either!
